I'v been in both parties.
Sols was the most suprising one. First two days no people and the ones who were there were young and lost...However on Sunday evening around 1500 gathered, most of the really col and nice. The weather was good, the sound was great and the music was kind I haven't heard in Japan so far( been here 7 years). the Party became really good with nice vibes and even Etnica gave a great morning set.
On the other hand, Mother was disaster. it was raining heavily every night (made the dance floor a pool of mud), the music was bad and the crowd was very mixed kind of people.
It was supposed to be full moon party, but no moon could be seen.
Only on the last night (the after party) when
most people left, the sky cleared and the sun rise was breath taking (non the less the music was even wors...)
It used to be the best big trance festival in Japan but not anymore.

First of all, thank you for this topic. Its nice to have an interesting topic we can discuss here.

I can only speak from personal experience and some stories I heard.

I went to Solstice & VQ parties from '98 - '02. Some of the most memorable experiences of my party life! The first Shpongle show at Motosuko, Mt. Fuji. Weird space ship shaped cloud as the backdrop to the stage on Mt.Fuji, Infected at VQ in Kodama... etc.
Bay Hall parties were great too.

I stopped because I discovered the underground scene and started my own party crew. This scene was similar to what I experienced in Melbourne in '94 - '96 when I first got into Goa Psychedelic Music.
These types of parties are what I enjoy the most.

I had the opportunity to go to a few Solstice events in recent years and I was shocked to see the crowd and the vibe had completely changed! Young kids who had no idea of the original spirit that made the scene special for so many people.

For me, Solstice and VQ became like part rock concert and part fashion show for kids. I don't understand the concept anymore. I don't think its the organizers fault, they were the biggest and most famous parties when the kids from para para came into the scene. Also, they seemed to be on the wrong drugs? Not psychedelic.

Parties need next generation of trancers to survive but I think they need to keep the vibe... maybe some education and good concept need to be developed.

As for Mother, they are a newer organizer and I only started going to their parties a few years ago. For awhile I thought the crowd was good and many of my party friends were there too. The organizers are really nice guys too. They really made an effort to invite core people and groups in the scene and try to involve them. But they got really big and the percentage of bad people increasing at their parties... I guess it can't be helped. Also, for me, personally, I think many of the same artists come everytime so it gets a bit boring (exception being Headroom). I guess with big parties its hard to say no to line-ups that have proven to be successful.

I guess I'm from old school underground roots and the underground party scene around Tokyo is really awesome so I'm happy. I still like going to big parties for that special big party feeling but the crowd can be a big turn-off... Its all about the vibe for me...

I'm lucky because I work in the industry and the organizers are often kind enough to invite me to parties but I see the ticket prices are close to 20,000 yen and the parties are getting further away from Tokyo (to run away from the Tokyo kids I guess). The cost is a big concern.

Maybe its good the scene goes underground and re-invents itself with fresh and original concepts that can inspire original and cool people (both old and young) to come back to parties.

A good time for a fresh big festival with a new concept... who wants to join me
The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.

I heard S. o. S. was really nice this year

by the last day all the garu had relaxed a bit

took off their heals & danced in the mud. I think that's great!

didn't go though. Just a story told to me by someone I trust

just go to the parties where you favourite artists are playing

why not? Unless the organisers are evil arseholes...           new Hadal Drop album on the way

if you don't have the last one get in touch
