I'm in a dilemma, I had the plan of choosing Adam A7's with a Sub8 in replace of my BM5A's. But now, I've researched and researched and have only read and heard good things about the Focal Solo6 BE's. Whats a comparison between these two? I don't know of a place where I can hear the Solo's so I can't really decide. Whats the difference in lows between the three of these monitors? |

I think you will find it hard to find someone who has listened to all 3 in the same room.
Bass is room dependent. It really really is. But there are other factors to consider. Monitors are a personal thing. You find with some trial and error which ones work for you.
I am surprised you don't look for some old Mackie HR824's. sealed box design with passive radiator. Very tight bass response. Better transient response to the BM5's |

Focal are super extra detailed in the mid and hi area,, very very detailed. As far the low frequencies response you may find them a bit mud,, just a bit mud in opposed to very tight bass, its not the tightest but they are very natural sounding, they dont color the sound, its "what you hear is what you get", but need time to learn them, and especially their mid-hi area
imho once you learn to mix good on them youll have a mix that can be translate great in every soundsystem

EtherReal....continuing from your other thread your room dimensions have a good spread of modes. If you really want better bass definition then you might want to increase the number of bass traps from 4 to 8. |

Yeah, i'm going to take that advice and just get the Adam A7's + Sub8 and use the money I saved to buy some more bass traps Thank you. Anything other advice? |

I am going to throw a spanner in the works...........
I am against smaller monitors like the A7's as I think they lack headroom. Generally "mini" monitors have smaller amps and don't have the capability to produce the full dynamics of un-mastered material with out compressing.
Now if you get the sub you can high pass at a higher frequency and effectively give more headroom to the monitors at the expense of headroom for the sub. The funny thing is that if you cut at say 100Hz the monitors ports will still be producing bass at the frequency they have been tuned at which is usually an octave below the bass/mid driver resonate frequency. This will result in a far from flat frequency response in the bass area.
If you are using A7's in a 5.1 environment with a sub it is different as the sub gets it's own discrete channel. |

What do you think I should do then? I have BM5A's right now, and i'm not satified. I love the mids/highs of the adams and I need to monitor the low frequencies, but I can't afford much of the higher models. |
