heres a weird question... do you like working alone or with other people when producing music? i have never tried working with more than myself before. i think it would be hard to communicate your ideas if someone else was trying to communicate thier own idea at the same time, but i'd like to give it a try someday.
whats your opinions on the subject?

from the pictures below who do you think is having more fun ???
This guy
Or this 4 guys?
I've learned a lot with just some sessions with other producers (optikool, bong and azeroth) or just by swapping files through the net.
Usually two heads thing better than one and both can benefit from the instant feedback when you have someone to say what's shitty and what rocks
I'm always open for colaborations, swaps, opinions, etc and there's always space for another chair in my bedroom sudio.

i found that working with another man is a very diffacult thing 2 do,
ofcaurse that there is more insparation this way, but its harder to do the things that u want 2 do, because the other person usualy wants to do other things.
but maybe i havent found the right person 2 colaborate with.
anyways, for now, i like 2 work alone because the work flows batter this way for me.

I get inspiration and enthusiasm for writing music from being around people who are into the same music as me... on my own I tend not to have as much motivation as I would like, but when I'm in the studio with a collaborator I am very conscious of not wanting to disappoint them. In OOOD/Unconscious Collective there are four of us, and Voice of Cod and Benefactor are both duos.

although im not at a release level yet in my production - i find that what Colin says still hold true to my case... working with someone makes me not be lazy about things i usually say when im alone - "ill do that later" and they never actually happen. im really glad to be working now with a partner who seems to think mostly like me but has diffrent skills then me - its a nice compliment. also the work together is divided... sometimes ill watch tv when he is doing something, other times ill write the whole track and he will shout from the sofa - hey too much high's! or some other comments.... either way its really good cause there is alot of feedback that i sometimes go crazy when i dont know if something is good or not.

i'm with the other guys here, teams are great!! but it's hard to organise... i like the online approach, sending things back and forth untill u have a song... I like it because every time i get something back that i like i get a spark to do things i would have never done on my own, i don't know why that is, but i seem to be more creative with someone elses material then with my own material... also, it's a good way to finish songs ur stuck on but that have the potential to be a good song... |

I really enjoy working with others as well. You tend to come up with ideas that aren't as easily attainable by yourself. Sometimes you will have some conflicting ideas, but usually you can work through it to make it fit. You tend to learn a lot of stuff by collaborating with people too. I haven't tried the online thing, but it sounds like a pretty good idea....

i worked with several people and i guess we didnt have the right chemistry it was ok but i prefer to work by myself, jamming with someone is a different story altogether, a lot more fun in a group, sometimes you can jam for a while until you come up with something you like and then you record it, or you can record the whole session and later rehearse the better parts.
dj sets with friends are also lots of fun and very satisfying

i would love to work with someone chair by chair, someone who is interested in music and knows a few things....
as Surrender said i also tend to say " ill do that later" and it never happens...
making music and having somebody to elaborate with would be wicked, making fast decisions.. and actually making some progress...
i guess its more freedom working alone if you got the character to get the job done...
i wouldnt mind jamming with some dudes... |

I started working alone for about 1 year and my music process is me at 3 am working with new ideas that rush in my head at all times, but then the last year i started working with my brother and togueter we have some pretty good ideas cause both of us like the same kind of style groovie, fat bass lines etc etc etc, so it's been easy working with him, the thing is that i have worked with people that are not that ussed to the typicall music session, it's kind of hard cause u dont know the way they are going to express what's in their head so u need to be patient and the other to with u haha but making music with other people is great !! |

I am still looking for someone for an electrance project from Thessaloniki/Greece.
I ve worked with others, but its 2 difficult to make things work
cause we r posistioning our shelfs in front of the subject.
I and I and I and I....i am sic of it!
Since the output matters, all personal opinions are grait if they are into the track.
Some are musicians, some are just flirting with music playing around with soft's,some doing it for the girls and some just think that they got it.
Music as a piece is non material,so u cant give any proofs for it...
Today i made a thought listenning to a track of mine.
Track has my character,Only if another guy joins the track will make the listenner conflict with my feel,
it could be just a note or a simple copy paste that i couldnt imagine since i ve done a lot of work into the track,
even if anyone thinks its perfect,it never is...
The only proof,to get into the subject,is that the most successfull groups work with two ;D |

I CAN make music alone, but less and less as I get older. It doesn't matter what I am technically *capable* of, it just gets boring. I think most of the world's truly phenomenal music is at least partially collaborative. One person cannot create a synergy with themself.
If you are gonna collaborate, do yourself a favor and don't overlap duties, skills, or responsibilities too much. It'll just cause fights. Use the other person for inspiration, not argumentation.
