Artist : Solead
Label : Tree Hand
Format : Digital EP
Release date : feb. 08

Tracklist
1/ Paperclip [128 bpm]
2/ Putifao [128 bpm]

Fresh from a successful one month tour in OZ, the wizards of hi-tech contemporary electronic music, always at the cutting edge of dance-floor oriented sound production, release their second EP at their newly founded label Tree Hand records. Solead is now a renowned name in the Trance scene, especially after their widely acclaimed rmx of the Emok/NDSA track “Harbor Candy” which strongly contributed to their fame, not to mention their previous and subsequent releases at Chillosophy, Tribal Vision, Kasey Taylor’s Vapour and Vapourize, Blue Tunes, Iboga, or John Digweed’s compilation Transition 3 at Renaissance. Behind the Solead moniker stands the association of two experienced French musicians, each famous in their own right for their solo project : Vincent Courcau aka Motion (also formerly Tetraktys), and Charles Michaud aka Triptych. Their impressive resume is already crammed with stand-out releases including solo albums and more than 80 tracks. Not to mention that these guys have a very solid musical education. Solead’s production immediately caught the attention of some of the big names of the Progressive scene and lead to collabs or rmx with Jamie Stevens from Infusion of Aussie fame, Antix, Beauty School; and there are more exciting collabs in the pipeline with interesting musicians of the Minimal-Techno scene such as Boris Brejcha of Anna fame, Deepchild, Robert Babicz and Moonbeam, which give hints of the soundscape that is inspiring them these days.

1/ “Paperclip” does not lose touch with the groovy touch that has so often characterized Tritych’s music: the punchy rhythmic combo is outwardly funky with a light snare punctuation and it serves an easy-going melodic theme orchestrated with sounds owing rather to tribal influences and exotic instruments like marimba. The break unfolds a wide array of trippy micro sonic events and opens out onto the last sequences which furthers the light melodic and harmonic treatment with another conversing motif. Recently tested on the dance floor, this works just fine and spices up any techno tech-house oriented set.

2/ “Pitufao”experiments a fusion of minimal tech with shades of housey influence which is hardly audible in the lead and treated with reverb fx. It builds up a strange atmosphere wherein reverberated & hissing vocal snipets first flirt with the odd electronic radio interference sound until a short, gritty motif slides in. The break adds a twisted touch with a playful polyphony of weird sounds, like deep gurgles, rolling percussions and a female voice sample echoing “passion”. They are eventually taken over in the last sequences by a repetitive metalic percussion theme playing up with dissonant riffs and tricky little hooks all propelled by a jazzy cymbal drive. The pristine production will allow you to enjoy this original construction, meant to titillate your eardrum with a funny musical cross over.

Bottom line
Solead’s music is about genre crossing experimentation and innovation and this release comes as no exception. These tracks will rejuvenate anyone bored with the clichés of overused recipes. As the sophistication of “Putifao” might sound a bit abstract or coming out of the wacky mind of some mad professor, the dance floor-friendly perspective of “Paperclip” has my preference.

From the samples it looks like a new crispy clear sounding tunes from Solead!!!

Althought this music isn´t exactly what I like to dance(maybe the samples are too short), it´s incredible to listen. Every new track I hear I just imagine how they do the sounds.... Everything sounds great, from regular kick and bass sounds, even to most distorted and stretched ones! Crazy loops, full of complex motion leads and trippy tricks...

Hugs from Brazil my friends!           LOADING...

Indeed jesse
Solead 's music is one step ahead many's ,futuristic hi end music... half music/half sound design
It always takes me some time to get into their tunes as this is not "easy made -easy listening" music that fall into easy trends (nowadays trends being copy pasting old school german progressive trance)
it's funny because when these guys used to make progressive trance like 7-8 years ago, it was not a very cool music to play , as most people thought it was slow and not dancefloor-friendly, not talking about the "house music factor".
it's still pretty much what most psytrance heads says or think about the artists that are not stucked in this "psy-progressive" copycats trend, wich means the ones trying to push this music forward instead of repeating the same old formulas forever ...

what do you need to be a successful progressive trance artist these days ? make an album full of offbeat basses or tagada basses with fulloners' Number 1( the almighty VB1) , a few cheap melodies passed into cheap delays and all the ex-fulloners will praise for you
been there , done that a million times ... something noone can say about Solead's music.

Respect guys !
