Solead
Hibiscus EP
Label : Bus records
Format : digital
Release date : april 2010 (soon available)

Tracklist:
1. Hibiscus (original mix)
2. Hibiscus (Fiord remix)
3. Hibiscus (D-Sens remix)
4. Hibiscus (Shades of Gray remix)

The French label Bus records is Matthieu Delepau’s roster, founded in 2006 to promote quality underground Techno-oriented music, and has a dozen releases on record, including a top D-Nox and Beckers remix of NOP. Matt is a veteran DJ on the French and international scene, with a career spanning 17 years, and is also a well-known music activist and promoter, a pillar of the Aqua Veda team which has already set up 6 editions of the international festival Arcadia, usually held at the end of August. He is also known as a respected producer as part of the Progressive-House project Luna Spice which has released tracks on some of the forefront Progressive labels (Iboga, Spin Twist, Flow, Sub Machine...). Now he has embarked on a more Tech House, Techno oriented solo project under the guise of D-Sens. For this new release, Bus is featuring their friends Solead, the well-known wizards of hi-tech electronic music, who have already marked up important releases on Vapour/Evapour8, Metroline, Tree Hand, Iboga, Tribal Vision, Beef, Open etc., and are also licensed to Digweed’s Global Underground and Vitalic’s Citizen.

Solead’s Hibiscus is a drums driven Techno banger, with a simple woodblock theme bristling with sultry late-night energy. This is a very effective tool for the dance-floor, with, as always, top quality production, although this piece is not quite representative of the duo’s latest trend which leans more towards Caribbean flavoured Tech House.

D-Sens bends the Hibiscus in a more tech-house direction. The percussive motif is still present but coated with claps and synth-heavy arrangements, driven by low-down, swaying beats. The break slices into a more dreamy episode, and enhances ear-catching effects from the original such as the filtered vocal snippets and the glitchy scratch that recurs throughout the track. Arguably the best D-Sens production. A strong asset in this package, with excellent dance-floor potential.

Fiord’s rendition squeezes the tribal romp of the original and reworks it into a rumbling mass of futuristic mechanical funk combining a telluric sub-bass with wobbling beats that ride along on a powerful groove, fuelled by shuffled hi-hat, and later on, cymbal rides. The Kiwi wonderboys throw into the mix an acid-drenched melodic line until things break perfectly into a sultry register. The incredibly lush orchestration is just amazing and once again, they confirm their place at the top of their game : their remix is just the cherry on the top. Hats off!

Compared to the above-mentioned, the Shades of Gray remix delivers a much more polite and sedate version, rather club-oriented, with percussion flourishes enhancing the Tribal-House register. The Sydney-based duo injects a sweet melodic addition to the mix in the final sequences which yields a nice summery feel. Well done, even if lacking a genuine original twist.

Bottom line.
Arguably Bus records’ best release up until now. A very consistent release with four versions that should find their moments. But Fiord rules with this second offering to the Bus catalogue!

D-sens remix exclusive video :

D-sens comes with a stormy peak time techno remix, a new direction for this track bringing the energy to another level, with his usual crystal clear production and incredible detailed work around this remix.           http://www.aqua-veda.com
