The closeest I've found is to run a spectral analysis, such as in Soundforge, and noting what the primary frequency is. Usually this is the key. |

You don't have to.
I'm a crappy player as well, but I give me a few minutes and I can figure out most melodies.

Not a talent.
I developed it with very hard work and lots of practice, and it's still not perfect. This is why it takes me minutes and not seconds.

Hej setfan there is a swedish program called full suite scriber that analyse for example music or singele tones... I dont remember the adress though.. But search on google for full suite scriber.
