NAH NIGGA NAH!
screamo is the likes of bands on the vein of alesana, funeral for a friend, fear before the march of flames, a static lullaby and stuff like that, so gay.... and have nothing to do with the bands i mentioned, try em straigh edge vegan hardcore....

if you want some complicated albums with more than screamings and noises try;
Amaseffer - Slaves For Life (2008) Oriental Power Progressive Metal (Israel)
Judas Priest - Nostradamus (2008)
Therion - Gothic Kabbalah (2007)
Orphaned Land - Mabool (2004) (Israel)

dudes, Between the Buried and Me and in the league of their own and pretty far removed from both sXe hardcore and screamo. crazy talent is concentrated in that band and Colors is just a masterpiece of an album. i actually didn't think it was as good as Alaska at first. but goddamn, did it grow on me. just amazing.
i don't follow metal as much as before, but it's been a pretty big part of my life since i was 14. i was in bands for many years (the last one, www.myspace.com/trials ... had to quit in order to travel) and dig something in nearly all the subgenres (was never into power-metal though).
some of the stuff i still listen to:
Ihsahn - the project of ex-Emperor singer/guitarist. the dude is such an awesome composer, guitar player, and singer. one of the favorites. this project is a combination of prog, symphonic, and black metal with incredible songs. both albums are great, with the 2nd one, Angl being more refined.
Behold... the Arctopus - crazy finger-tapping instrumental metal. Think Dillinger Escape Plan crazy. one of the dudes plays a Warr guitar, which is extra awesome. they totally slay live.
Opeth - EPIC!!! not much needs to be said here. just brilliant music.
Unexpect - experimental/progressive metal from Canada. think Mr. Bungle, if they were only into metal, opera, and gypsy-music. psychotic carnaval type shit.
Akercocke - really great black/death metal from England with occasional middle-eastern flourishes. very memorable songs. pretty epic in their own way.
Gojira - tribal-ish metal from France. very rhythmical and groove oriented, but with plenty of dark atmospheric melodies. these guys seem to be getting a lot of attention in the last few years, and for once, the hype is totally justified.
Dodheimsgard - 666 International and Satanic Art are both amazing albums. 666 International is just such a weird trip. this album is 5 or 6 years old, maybe older, but i still haven't heard anything that tops it, as far as combining death/black with Industrial and Electronica. really twisted, imaginative album. unfortunately, some key members left the band, and now they are called DHG and they released some shitty album last year.
these are some of top bands for me personally that i keep coming back to.

if you probably just found about them recently, IŽd have agreed with you, however I just CanŽt, because, when Tommy Giles Rogers came up with BTBAM, he came from a vegan/edge/hardcore background at it fullest, hailing from North carolina, he played guitar on Prayer for Cleansing and the rest of his band mates also did, along with members from bands such as Hope for a Bleeding Sky and Undying, all vegan edge hardcore!.
then he came up with the self titled BTBAM album on 2002 which kicked mayor asses, till the released of The Silent Circus which is my favorite album yet.....
just take a look at the back of ANY OF THEIR albums and see the smily face of the bulldog that says Victory Records, one of the pilars of the hardcore escene in the world.

oh, i'm well aware of that. however, i was saying that MUSICALLY they are very different. i could be in a polka band and just because i don't eat meat/have sex/kill little children (or whatever it is that sXe is based on NOT doing), doesn't mean that my polka band should be lumped in with BTBAM.
but like you said, all this is mostly irrelevant and the only thing that matters is that BTBAM are beyond awesome.
more picks:
Augury - Canadian death metal. Awesome songs, great riffs, both technical and melodic without doing the predictable things. (There are tons of awesome Canadian death metal bands: Neuraxis, Gorguts, Cryptopsy...).
Necrophagist from Germany - HOLY SHIT!!! Super technical virtuoso guitar playing with heavy Death (the band) influences. Yet the melodies/riffs are memorable as hell. There are a gazzillion parts in every single song and almost everything is harmonized in different ways between 2 guitar players. Definitely one of the best bands around.
Martridden - really solid death/black with some melodic interludes.
Isis - obviously not new, but i've been listening to these guys a lot lately again. Great slowly evolving songs. Very massive sound (especially on earlier records). Apocalyptic post-metal... Whatever, it's just good music.

look for Cave In and Botch youŽll dig them.....
Isis have always rocked my sundays of boredom, their remixes album is superb!
Cursed - are also very noisy and darkish....
the Power and the Glory - just Great, give it a try!
Converge - the most awesome band you can ever see in a venue packed with 300 sweting kids.....

word.
have seen both Isis and Converge many times. Saw Cave In a few times, but only after Jupiter came out. Would've loved to see them during their Metallica-worshipping stage. Their brand of metalcore was some of the best and they were just a bunch of kids when they were doing it (and way before it became the cliche that it is now). Sadly, I never got a chance to see Botch live. 'We are the Romans' is one of my favorite records.
right on.

Hi, maybe Disturbed, Satyricon .. ?
Just got their debut album 'The Sickness, heard them as a warm-up band for a Marilyn Manson concert:
from Norway, not as death as Dimmu though:
