I had been an avid metal fan for many years and even played in a band too for sometime.
Especially music from the 80s to the mid 90s.
I'm quoting some favorites covering the subgenres of metal : Maiden, Sabbath, Judas Priest, Slayer, Pantera, Metallica, ANthrax, Megadeth, Sepultura, C.O.F, Dimmu Borgir, My dying Bride, Testament, Death, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Fear Factory, Korn and many others.
Post 2000, ive totally disintegrated from it, coz to me the music died. In came Nu-Metal... i've nothing against it, in fact some of it is good. But it just killed everyhting so much, that all you could see now is just like "copy paste stuff".
Only few bands like Slipknot, Chimaira, Lamb of god are the ones im kinda aware of.
So if any of you still following it pretty much.... Whos really kickin what these days?
I'm sorry if i struck a wrong chord ! lol

Do you listen to black metal / gothic metal / Depressive Black metal or Gothenburg(scando) scene ? cause if you do, I can suggest some really good albums over the years.
Im leaving aside "new" Dimmu borgir and COF.. in BM scene both bands have become pathetic and sold out.
IMO
Slayer's new album - christ illusion is good indeed

Thanks for the link man .
I have to say and be ashamed to say that Slayer is my fav band. I played my first riffs listening to Slayer.... and i am ashamed to say that i havent been aware of Slayers last album. I was waiting for it since quite some time... but as i said, i had detached from the whole scene completely. Time to revamp it.... Gonna check it out sooon....! Thanks...

Heilarious about Dimmu and selling out! That's what I hate about the metal scene, the 16 year old sell out calls! Dimmu make good, dark and atmospheric music. Black metal or not, it beats say Beastcraft et al. who sound liek they were recorded using the built in mic on their lappy
The releases I said are quality in their own right, they don't even claim to be B.M so why hate them? Dimmu has clearly stated this for years, as have C.O.F for the last decade, they just make good solid metal! And if this makes them rich then good on 'em!
The new Dimmu DVd kicks ass for a good live dvd, what with Hellhammer on the drums

^Hey pepper on 24/7 power trip look at the big "IMO(in my opinion)" on my previous post, it goes for you.
How about "Think about what you like and leave aside what others perceive" it doesnt matter what others call your choice..for me black metal started not for commercial reasons..and for you it maybe something different.
anyways.
@Braindrop >> Do let me know if you fancy the draconian allbum
cheers

man I don 't like soulfly. Max became a dick when he left sep. In eighth grade slayer and sep were my favs. Honestly tho I don't think there are too many good new bands. you kinda have to search for em. I really like gorerotted. Nothing cooler than growling vocal harmonies. Slayer definitely has the coolest lyrics. They may not be the most super evil anymore but the way they flow is pure genius. And I usually hate lyrics. Hell awaits is like th best metal album of all time IMO. Between the buried and me is good as well as opeth. But yea I have to say I'm way more a fan of old thrash/death/grindcore. Carcass, Obituary, Testament, Entombed, Exodus, Anthrax, Megadeth, pantera, mortician, gwar, death. I saw sergeantpepper666 put a question mark next to NIN. These guys aren't new but if you have not heard skinny puppy then check em out. pretty nutty.

NIN and Tool have no replacements, they are unique.
