So what're your thoughts on the death penalty?

So right I can't talk to my wife on this anymore as she is a real right to life type person whereas I sincerely believe that certain acts warrant the guilt party losing their right to exist on this planet.
In particular rapists, and definitely child rapists. A 20 year old acquaintance was raped at an indoor psy event about a decade ago where I was living. It was commuted by the 4 bouncers at the venue, when she went outside to make a phone call. They got off because the cops basically said she was asking for it (she was on 'cid & e). She killed herself two years later due the PTS etc. Me and her other friends tried so hard to help her cope but obviously it wasn't enough. I very much wanted, and still get the urge, to find said bouncers and remover their lives.
Just as I think these two Aussies should have just be shot dead http://m.smh.com.au/national/named-the-australian-paedophile-jailed-for-40-years-20130630-2p5da.html because what they did is about as sick as it can get IMO.
What the fuck is wrong with our world? Seriously? This shit just seems to be happening more & more often, security being overly violent & getting off, rapists getting short prison terms.
I really still question sometimes if having a kid was such a good idea, as much as I love my son I'm not sure that our society is heading anywhere positive.

Sorry to hear about this tradegy, but dont feel bad about your child as we need in this world good caring parents like you who will raise their kids to be enlightened and look after the mess of a world we have left for them.
As for the death penalty, here in South Africa, murder and rape is the norm and we have this fantastic constitution which looks great on paper, but yet we all live with this daily crap that one becomes desensitized to the horrors that occur. If there was a vote on the death penalty (DP) I think it would be a YES, but for good reason the death penalty is not allowed. Can the state be trusted to implement the DP? In SA history the DP was used as a political tool to kill opponents of the regime. In other countries the DP is used to kill drug mules (pawns). However because we dont have the death penalty, crimes involving brutal murder is the norm as criminals know if they get caught they will be out in a few years, so rather just kill your victims. The public, fed up of criminals who are released back into their communities have resorted to 'kangeroo courts' and hunt and kill them as the state fails to deal with the issue. So although we dont have death penalty, the net results is more rape and death in a viscious cycle. |
