I have been booked for live performance later this year and that means that the time has come for me to learn how to make a liveset on my computer...
I am pretty much clueless at this point, so if anyone got good tips on selecting program to use, how to use it and maybe some tutorials I would be eternaly greatful...
PEACE

Should probably say that I have NO experience in mixing with cd's / vinyl etc...
What I want to do is to take 10 of my tracks, mix them in some sort of software, where I can make everything work as 1 project that can run throughout the whole set. And then have some FX assigned to the set, like EQ, filter, delay etc...

This sounds more like a dj set than a live performance where you are going to play your tracks and just tweak them using the mixer's onboard eq and effects.
My understanding of a live performance is where the pc plays back the tracks from your daw with a certain track(s) muted which you play live using some sort of external hardware(midi keyboard, synth, drum machine etc.) and/or tweaking the sound with a special effects unit. Or you have your tracks on cds without the sounds you are going to perform live, the same way i just mentioned.
Can you tell us exactly what you have in your mind doing?
A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life. |

Well, in a way it is a dj set... Only it's just my work being played.
Since this is my first time playing any of my work in front of an audience I want as little as possilble to be able to go wrong. I don't have any experience in doing this or using any other hardware than my Remote SL. And also I have only used FL studio to create sound.
So basicly what I want to do is to create the whole set from home and take it with me on my laptop. Then have it play the whole set from one file and then being able to add fx and maybe a few drum loops from FL or other... I figure that way it can't be a total disaster...

I did that thing with ableton live - it's rock solid (at least on my laptop) - you just need to warp your tracks, which is no problem after some trial...
You can set up 2 audio channels and use the crossfader or prearrange everything with bpm-changes and everything in the arrangement view of ableton
if youre a first time ableton user just click on help and make some of the courses there
good luck with your liveset |

Well im preparing my live set also. I split each track into loop (kick, snare, percs, leads, pads,fx etc..) and i launch them as scenes and some individual clips, basically i build or remake the track live and play with fx.
I dunno if it may work for u since psytrance goes faster, im making progressive/electro house right now so my main tempo is at 127 bpm so i have enough time to switch between scenes. Still i have issues to sort like changing between tracks but so far i like the way im doing it i keep busy all the time (wich i wanted) no soft synths at all, i use a microkorg for synth performance instead so my pc (later lap top) will be only playing audio. |

Both my friend and me , we are trying to make a live set like this:
Looping in Abbleton Live with the scenes stuff all mapped to the midi controller , and the output routed to a Korg electribe A for effects and synth sequences, we also want to hook up 2 laptops together so we can send midi data or trigger sequences between the 2 laptops. ¿Is this possible?. We are also programming an alesis micron to sequence realtime with the onboard sequencer..
does anyone own an alesis micron?
what recommendations can someone give me about this setup?
Thanks in advance |

here you can check out my Tutorial about follow actions on scenes for ableton live..with pictures and all that stuff..
http://www.dark-zlime.de.tl/Follow-Action-.htm
i think its a good way cause if set up right you do not have to take care of scene changes anymore..just set it to 8 bars and let it run through arrangement..and still you can switch and rearrange inbetween if you want to..
good lick

Very cool, this was the idea I had for when I set up my live set. It allows for you to let tracks take their natural progression and at the same time give you the option for some on the fly changes.
You could also set up a "live" track next to each one and have this contain bits and pieces to use for live performance as well on any particular track.
