i know there is more to life than psy and good music, but im its hard to have fun in an environment that you feel uncomfortable in because its like a high school frat party party.

life is also not about getting wasted, at least not all the time anyway!

lesson to be learnt from this trip. plan my next one a lot more than doing everything on total random impulse, which has lead to some good situations, but also shit ones, just waiting for the volcano cloud to lift at the mo so i can get back to europe to see mates and get to some proper parties. hopefully they wont have closed the laos/thai border by then because of the whole red shirt protest stuff.

ps good film that your usernames taken from...           "Let me respectfully remind you,

Vang Vieng is the worst place in Laos, it's a beautiful country with beautiful people... It's a shame so many people just see VV. I loved Laos, spent a month there but 1 day was enough in VV. Get out, rent a bike, and see the real country!           «They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.»

Well, if you were in this amazing country and all you chose to do was this, you can only have yourself to blame.

I was in Laos in 1994, tourist visas were not available then, only transit visas for two weeks. I chose to overstay mine hoping things would be alright, which they were. Didn't even have to use the extra money I prepared in order to pay off the customs guy in the crossing to Thailand. I traveled all over Laos, to a lot of places that were supposed to be off limits to people from outside Laos. I encountered mostly natural and historical beauty, an overall atmosphere of mystery and wonder, huge cultural diversity, a lot of calm, and amazing friendly people who were happy to share the little they had with an alien person they couldn't even talk to. It was some of best time I had in my extensive traveling.

Oh, and the food was amazing too, even if out of the ordinary at times
