If you want to make it fit your track perfectly, run a loop in your sequencer with all the 'basic' elements of the track, and then run a snare with no effects on it. Apply a highpass via the EQ, fiddle around with it's resonance and frequency until the snare sounds roughly like you want it to sound, beyond that, apply other small touches to the EQ until you feel the snare 'fits' the track's sound. Then change the volume of the channel until the snare is as dominant as you want it to be (don't exaggerate with the volume though, that's how it ends up killing the mix).
You can additionally tweak this by adding a compressor to eliminate pesky peaks (low ratios, fast attack or high ratios and slower attacks), even though a proper EQ usually makes this step unecessary. A reverb will give a snare a fatter sound, but this should be applied only at the mixdown stage if you want to squeeze the maximum juice out of your percussion.
99% of the snares in psytrance are made like this. http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222 |

take an 808 snare with lowcut up to 2Khz. little bit distortion maybe, placed in a tiny reverbroom (not too much!) reduce the decay and release. play with deadnotes. |
