Hi fellows , when i mix a track i play the bounce in iTunes and crank up the eq gain (wich is the crappiest i've ever heard)
listening to my songs , when the snare comes in ...it fucks up the sound, the distortion is so prominent
listening to pro's song snare distorts a lil bit and don't fuck up the overall sound
I'm trying many ways to get rid :
1-low down the snares volume in the mix (but i lost the "Snap" )not 6 db or so but slighly adjustement layers
2-Compress anything but the snares (no good, snares comes out very un-glued)
3-Change snare samples. i'm not sure about that until i have found a snare wich don't distort
I actually use sanres from VEC1 and variuos 909 sample library.
Btw i like how they sound(esp. the sampled 909) i'm confusing about change them or not
(when i'm on the sequencer all sounds good can't notice bad distortion until in iTunes)
btw VLC can crank up to 400% and slighly distort
ANy advice from you dears?

Compress anything but the snares? Have you tried compressing the snares? EQ them a little bit so the low end doesnt mess with kick/bass and the high end doesnt mess with hihats. Don't make their volume go over the other percussions' volume, KB vol, etc. unless intended.

Don't send all tracks to a compressed bus, that's pointless. Try to use as less compression as possible.
For example, I only compress noisy leads or snares, that I would like to increase volume and sharpness a little without them clipping.
And don't overcompress! That is a soundkiller!

why do you crank up the EQ gain?
Clearly you are doing something on your end to fuck up the sound...
i use Winamp to listen to music, i also like WMP, also for best sound i use adobe audition...
i hear no distortion in pro tracks... I would probably do if i cranked up the EQ gain.. hehe

He probably cranks it up because it isnt mastered. To get a higher general level. I just hope he cranks up the volume slider and not certain freqs. |

Guys i volountarly fuck up with the itunes gain +12 db to hear better the flaws of my mixing
Pro tracks distort so slightly (in leads only , the bass& Kick remains solid and clean) ,mine tracks distorts in the snares and kick,
In the car and other sound systens the tracks wich sligthly distrors are more cleaner& louder the hear and the kick gives the solid punch i am searching
Altough my tracks i put into itunes to compare, are "mastered" whit a SOnalksis CQ1 (multiband on master)
and logis's adaptive limiter

I think its much better to do a test premaster and find out that way instead of cranck up the gain.... also you will see peaks and RMS levels so you know if you need to cut more... for desired maximization

This doesn't make any sense mate.
1: Don't use iTunes to adjust your mix. The only difference between iTunes and your sequencer is probably some less professional audio processing when using iTunes. And if You crank up the gain to +12 You can be absolutely sure that Apple is destroying your sound completely.
2: If your mix behaves so different than other mastered mixes then You are probably doing a bad mastering job. Use some EQs to dampen the frequencies that mess up the mix and the compensate with the compression/limiting. With those three tools You can remove most phasing problems in a mix as well as unwanted peaks etc. If your Mix is very bad to begin with you can still remove those issues but the track will probably loose it's energy or sound boring or extremely noizy/messy.
Anyway, my point is that You might want to look a bit more on your initial mix and fix problems there before bouncing the master wav for mastering.
Further more, it does sound like You are paying too much attention to Compression/Limiting as opposed to your EQ. -I think...
Good luck though
