What ? I use a computer with a sequencer and a VSTi sampler to play a synthetic snare when i want to hear a synthetic snare and a real snare when i want a real snare.

Let me phrase it differently when u decide to use a synthesized snare and I don’t mean a sample what VST do u make it with or what outboard.           Ate pepper? Drink juice!

I've never tried it, but cant you make it the same way you make a kick in SoundForge, via FM synthesis+pitch downwards+overdrive and so on?

The links below provide a nice startingpoint. The Waldorf Attack VSTi is a nice drum-synth you can use to try the ideas.

after you synthesize a nice sound be sure to save it to an audio version you can use in a sampler, it's much easier to work with samples.
