deadnotes...hmmmm.....perhaps he means notes (=hits) between the usual snare-hits (2 + 4) it sounds good and not as boring as the same bom tchack bom tchack throughout the whole song.

it's not "dead notes" it's called "ghost notes" ,
and it's low-velocity short drums (not only snares)
that used mostly in hard-syncopated breakbeats
to create the "feel" of live drummer sound .
creating those ghost notes can be very complicated,
i think it has nothing to do with trance anyway ,
so maybe u don't really need it .

Steve,

u can use Deadnotes/Ghostnotes
in trancemusic for sure!
If u wanna have tribal-rolling percussions
its a must!
Examples: Filur, Son Kite, The Delta.. .etc ect..

Its called deadnote because the velocity of it is very down.
so the other percussions lead the track and the deadnotes fill out the holes in the rythm with not identify-able drumsets.. the are like "ghosts" because they are so quiet.
A lot of drumloops would sound dry without them.

lots of fun with it!
