I am having issues with the mid/high end of my kick not sounding the same on beats 2 and 4 as on 1 and 3 because the snare is hitting at the same time. I am looking for solutions, but changing the volume of either doesn't work, EQing them to non-compete makes them sound weird, and putting the snare in stereo space is a bit strange with the rest of the mix.
Any suggestions?

i'd say you need to tweak or eq them better or even replace one.
another approach is to let something else hit on 1 and 3 to mask the kick there, too. ;-) |

125?
i mostly highpass at 500 or even 1khz.
but of course it all depends on the snare and how you want it to sound |

depends of tuning, but you will get phater drums by tuning them on a sampler and highpassing less insteed of highpassing all the meat, but it depends what suit the tune |

i usually set up a high pass filter and sweep it upwards from 100 hz with the snare soloed until I hear it starting to cut off snare sound, then I adjust it to somewhere close to that point where it sounds good.
Then unsolo the snare and listen to it in the mix, and verify that the high pass is sounding good still... then what I am currently working on is EQing the snare and the kick to sit together
