i never find hit hats and snares i like browsing sample cd(i don t like how they are processed )so i would like to synthesis my own ,but i don t get good result like a TR 909 snare, not snappy enought, i make them using noise and filter envelope, anyone have some tips?is it possible to make them in a audio editor like soundforge for example(same as kick but with noise maybe?)or maybe it s better to start with dry roland TR sample and layer and process them to my taste.

Often I layer my hits.. if your not gettin enough snap.. add a clap and ajust eq level accordingly. Adjust length and so on.. .
Also Microtonic is a killer drum synth.. Its got all the filters and stuff you need... you can even tune each sample to the desired freq /Note...

Never heard of the thomas penton set but sounds like a lot are using it. Does anyone know where to get it, would be good to try out but is it really a that much better than other beat sample cds?

its fantastic.... not to keen on the high hats in it (i like them a bit snappier) but everything else is super useable...the claps and snares are so strong and cut through the mix so well and the toms n tribal stuff are also great
do a google search..you can buy it for like $60 instant download, worth the money, its one of the few sample cd's i keep coming back to.

I recommend the thomas penton sample cd as well. He gave me the 24bit version when we had him here for a show a few years back.
I'd say the best thing to get good drums though is layering.
You said you have soundforge, take a high hat and open it in sound forge, make a copy of it, reverse the copy and cut of the begining of, then copy it and use the paste mix function to put them on top of each other. You can also generate noise or triangle tones and layer those on top, do fade outs and you got yourself some nice drum samples....
Using the ones right off a sample cd may sound thin or too "real" if you add noise or layer them, you get sounds that can't be made by simply hitting something. Just try it...
