i never find hit hats and snares i like browsing sample cd(i don t like how they are processed )so i would like to synthesis my own ,but i don t get good result like a TR 909 snare, not snappy enought, i make them using noise and filter envelope, anyone have some tips?is it possible to make them in a audio editor like soundforge for example(same as kick but with noise maybe?)or maybe it s better to start with dry roland TR sample and layer and process them to my taste.

you answered a lot of it yourself i think... experiment, noise and filter works, try also adding a sine for the attack.

POM, altghough it s a nice experience to do your own sounds, I d tel you to save time to compose rather than to do something that you can find it done, and the difference at the end would be very discrete (not to say none)...

You can re process samples as you wish, eq/compress/fx them, layer 2 or 3 samples together, etc...sure it ll lead you where you want ...use Thomas Pentons samples to start with...from there I d say you d get your free time to compose....

Peace...

I usually use sample cd's (especially the thomas penton set), but have on occasion synthesized snares using a noise osc in a synth like albino. gives you great control over the envelope.

like other people have already said, layering samples together helps bring out characteristics that are not present in any one sample alone.

uhe filterscape/zebra have some nice electric sounding hat presets as far as i remember.

Never heard of the thomas penton set but sounds like a lot are using it. Does anyone know where to get it, would be good to try out but is it really a that much better than other beat sample cds?
