Ok, so i want to put a hi pass filter on my Kick/Bass group so that i can make it sweep upwards at the end of certain sections and create a buildup.
My problem is at the moment when i automate the 'bypass' button to turn the filter on i get a nasty pop sound half way through the first kick when the filter comes in.
I'm using ProTools (i know im a weirdo) but I've had similar problems with Cubase in the past.
So my question is how do people generally avoid this? Or does anyone know a good filter/eq which has a smooth internal on/off switch?
Thanks in advance!

You might need to put the automation line a little before the beginning of the kick or part you are automating

i dont know if you can throw a mute button on the track, but mute it for a split second while you turn the filter on (this is assuming that there is a split second of silence in the group that you can take advantage of, and that the mute button doesn't make a click).
otherwise yeah i'd do what faxi says or get fabfilter. actually i'd get fabfilter anyway cuz its a sweet bundle! volcanooooooo

yeah i tried that at first but its really inconsistent, especially when changing playback buffer settings
bouncing to audio is good but i'd like to be able to go back and tweak it
I think Fabfilter sounds like what i was looking for!

Just put the filter at 20 hz.. that way it doesnt influence the sound at all. But when you sweep it up it does.

I was going to suggest that earlier, but then I wasn't sure if that is correct cuz I only have headphones. I have done that on tracks in the past and I cant notice any difference, but listening on a better listening platform, is there a noticable difference with a filter at 20hz the whole time?
