hi 2 all!

just a question becouse have no idea how to do this

i wanna get smooth bass with beat about 130-150Hz,
and smooth from 0 to 130 Hz... I hear this bass - it's very deep!!

I try to combine saw with sine, modulate cutoff (thanx 2 nectarious ), and play with modulation amount. There is my settings for filter cuttoff: attack-0, decay - MOST IMPORTANT PARAMETR, about 20 (if from 0..127),
sustain, release - 0... modulation amount - SECOND MOST IMPORTANT, about 40 (again from 0..127). All this settings for SubTractor in Reason. Note - C1, cutoff about 20...

but... only what i have it's beat about 130-150Hz, and with second sine wave more smooth increase of amplitude from 0 to 130HZ...
The question is : HOW TO MAKE SMOOTH (not changed over time) frequency response from 0 to 130 Hz, and beat from 130 to 150 Hz...

And one more...
It's is possible to examine frequency response in real time? For example in reactor4 there is an osciloscope module but it is VERY simple.... But maybe there is a way to route audio out of a programm (soft synt for example) to external software spectrum analyser. Like midi router... but only for audio...

How are you examine frequency response of your samples? It's very inconveniently to export to wav and then examine in SoundForge...

There's a plug called Spectr, a very nice spectrum analyzer. Only problem about it is the huge CPU resources it takes.

Well, the best way to know what freq's is to experiment.
Cut down on frequencies, until you hear that it's not boomy. This can also be caused by collision with the kick drum.

Thanx for plug!!
But what about method of smoothing spectrum from 0 to beat frequency?

I draw what i'am want:

dB
----------------|
----------------|
----------------|-------------
0-------------150 Hz

Maybe there can help:

I think all harmonics from 0 to 150 Hz must have the same amplitude... But how it's possible?

And there is a beat from 150 to 200Hz for example

right

first off if u have anything major happening at 0-20hz u are doing nothing but wasting headroom. no one can hear anything under 20hz!! well, ok, ok, maybe 10-20hz counts as 'felt' subbass but certainly under 10, no speaker can really produce and no human ear can hear it. to be honest below 40 is getting pretty murky... u really want to be careful down here... especially unless u have AWESOME monitors...

second, if all harmonics from 0-150hz had the same amplitude then u wouldnt have a bassline, u would have low-frequency noise! very enharmonic sound, no percieved pitch whatsoever. notes come from harmonics! so if u are in A, then your main harmonics will be at 55, 110 hz. there is no way to have a bass which is playing any sort of note, and not have certain frequencies stronger than others... tahts the whole way it works.

to be honest i dont really understand this thread much... it doesnt make sense. it sounds to me like u are rather too concerned with making music according to the numbers and maths behind it, than using your ears... a good knowledge of this stuff is helpful, but not to use it like this!           http://www.dartrecordings.co.uk/

well said in the end solip!
when you listen to your own track you have to listen to it as if you just got a new cd from a friend and you listen to it first time. try to compare your track to tracks that you like.

Thats right!
But how to reproduce sound that i'am listen in my favorite track?
I try to imagine this sound in frequency response graph...

What tools are you use for examine your samples?
For example main harmonics for kick and bass must not cross...

Or only ears?
