Nowadays I think everyone's pretty well aware of the dangers of smoking, but most smokers either don't care or try not to think about it. My current problem is that Japan is a great place to be a smoker. When I go back home to the states where smoking is looked down on, prohibited everywhere, and expensive I'll make an honest attempt at quitting.
Don't wanna burninate the Virus, so no more smoking while composing for me |

Turbo,
I hear you on that one, I still get the occasional craving. But I don't even think about smoking until someone else is doing it around me. The peer aspect of the habit is incredible. Luckily it is getting more and more taboo here in the states (it is banned in restaurants and pubs in my county) and once it is finally eradicated from ALL public places, we will all stop dragging each other down.
And I am not even anti-drug, I just think that the cost/benefit of some drugs, like tobacco, is horrid. Marijuana is a better deal than tobacco, at least you get something out of it. All drugs should be legal and then simultaneously illegal to use in public. We might even do well to include alcohol...heh

how can you make music without somking?
its like getting up in the morning and drinking coffee without a cigarette.
and by the way ,all the big musicians work while smoking (not only cigarettes)
and thats also what they do when they are not working.

I don't think smoking weed while producing is a good idea. All you do sounds "wow" when you're stoned (and may sound like crap when you're sober). Plus, I can't really concentrate then, so its more or less just playing around with sounds instead of real composing or mixing.
I used to smoke cigs too while producing whenever I felt like doing a little break. I gave up smoking about 2 months ago and I'm almost over it but still when I make music I get craving regularly. I miss these little creative breaks. Of course I could do breaks anyway whenever I want but its so connected with cigarettes in my brain that I get this strong need to smoke. Hope that this will stop one day...

I agree on the weed. Anything I have tried in the past came out as either boring noodling, or an intensely psychotic, unlistenable garbled mess.
As a replacement for smokes, try some other nibbler, like sunflower seeds, pistachios, edamame, etc.

I quit smoking weed two years ago last Christmas, and tobacco two months later, and I'm glad to say I've found it very easy. I have my lungs back, and my sense of smell, and I've not been so productive for years. I do miss it for inspiration though, so of late I've taken to having one single draw from a pure shotgun bong at the beginning of each weekend's session, and brainstorming off that for the genesis of the track. Works a treat.
The human lung is fundamentally incapable of deriving any benefit from combusting vegetable matter. The human brain is a different matter.

i agree that smoking weed during production
isnt that good i usually get messed up in cubase, deleting stuff accidently or recording when the record button is off
but in parties or when im listening for inspiration theirs nothing like a good joint
to get my head fuilled with ideas.

For me the marijuana smoking and music making work very well together
But certainly not good from the health perspective, so Colin's shotgun bong suggestion sounds like a good compromise... |

no. we live in complete acceptence. our individual will is united with the will of the tobaco companies "like a drop in the sea"/
and i ask you, where else can you find such a classic example of transcendent unification?

If you're gonna do anything, stick to the the edibles IMO....

maybe the edivles will help with transcendent unifications.

I think people say the gear has been in a smokefree environment to point out : MY GEAR DOESN'T SMELL LIKE SHIT.
At least that's the way I see it ...

Well Unfortunatly were talking about smoking around EQUIPMENT .Smoking around electronics or recording gear is bad BECAUSE,it gets into the gear and sticks to the boards making a film the really attracts dust and the dust really sticks to it.Then the heat can't disperse from the circuts ,Over heats then and Causes premature failure of electronics. |

3 - Only A "Bad" Marijuana !
Taking Me To The Right Places And Put Evry "Things" In Place ! .
So Lets Say The True Ppls For Our Future Freedom To Smoke (What Ever) In Evry Place On Earth .. Cheers !!! Yoko
