Small tip if Re-Installing XP

Dear all Isratrance users.

What a baaaad fortnight. Had to reinstall XP Pro and never had an XP cd due to my laptop being an oem version, used a different copy to install. Even though it was still XP Pro, wouldnt accept my key. Had to do a dodgy.

Then reinstalled Cubase and all vst for the next 3-4hours and load up my latest track and after 3 seconds my VST load goes from 60-65percent to 100percent. Track slows down and locks up. Tried onboard soundcard and an external and same thing with both devices.

Reinstalled my external soundcard, updated drivers, reinstalled windows, Cubase etc twice but still VST would max out after 3seconds. Even with only one channel of midi or even audio soloed. If I was lucky I could play the track with pops and horrible distorted playback occasionally, but cant write Psy like that.

There are no answers anywhere on the net to this problem. Believe me I have checked everywhere.

THE SOLUTION:

F#$%en windows install. Arrrrrrggghhhh.
I blame Bill Gates. Wouldnt you?
Re-installed XP Pro with an oem version, updated drivers, reinstalled Cubase and all vst and after 6hours, I can now go back to where I left off.
WoooooooooooooHooooooooooooo

Well, hope this info helps others.

A word of advice, this certainly helped me a lot. Now that you have your pc setup just the way you like it with all your programs & vsts, do a BACKUP.

Use Acronis true image & make a backup image to an external harddisk. Next time your pc crashes it'll take you 30 mins to restore your pc to all its glory. No more two day installations.

Exactly Get-a-fix.
Got a copy on the desktop PC ready to transfer over and install. Just a few more vst to install to make sure all tracks are covered. (Nothing missing, you know) Its 5am here in Oz and I need a lil sleep so I have to do that next. But thanks for the reminder.
Have a great weekend.

That would be the problem right there. If you were using a pirated aka dodgy serial for windows you can have all kinds of issues like that. Not having all your updates will screw you too as well. Glad you got it all worked out.           Anomaly

If you were using an early version of windows before updates, you can get the netsky virus if you are plugged into the internet before the xp installation is even complete! That'll slow things right down.

Made that mistake a couple of times back in the day.. what a waste of time.

Now I keep a CD wallet marked 'RECOVERY' containing my most precious possessions - backups and pre-made install disks. If anything goes wrong, I should be able to get back to where I was within 2 hours.

Norton Ghost is good for this, takes a complete snapshot of hard drive at that point and you can recover to it.

more then that , have some recovery points

one when windows complete
one with all drivers etc.
one with DAW
one with all plugins

now it take some space for sure but.. u can recover to any point in this without have the damage of last mistake

also windows recover is possible to mark points btw

on the new mac os u can actualy recover in any time to any point u wish , but more then that , u can just go and find old files , some magic way its not taking hard drive space but is there only not available in any time , genious           www.sattelbattle.com

Id recommend Paragon harddisk manager, you can backup, compress and burn a bootable dvd with it.           Demand recognition for the Armenian genocide 1915
