considering desktop links are nothing but small icons that don't load anything into memory, i highly doubt that makes a noticable difference.
what does make a difference though is any sort of 'quick launcher' etc.. that gets loaded at startup and ends up at the bottom right hand side of your screen.

if those on desktop are shortcuts then yes,it has no efect in the time.but if it is files(tracks,folders etc)then it needs some more time to load them
you are right about the quick launcher ,though...
bu the way does anyone know hot to remove the windows firewall sign from there?i tried to set the"always hide"choise in the launcbar properties but no luck...
