great! Slinky and Bus were both killargh old school dark psy acts, would love to hear what they're up to these days.
and them being on Psy-Harmonics guarantees it not being yet another oldschool-gone-full-on clone. eh.. I hope.

I would hardly call Slinky or anything related to Flying Rhino 'killargh' or 'dark' ... but anyway, the new BUS stuff is more oldschool-gone-progressive, which is just fine by me, still oozes with TRANCE though, which is what its all about... I think this is he most recent release if you want an idea:

slinky and bus were both made some pretty fucking dark stuff back in the day. remember 'fistful of mutants'? or that whole 'black rhino' cd for that matter. and yeah it was totally killargh, git over it, it's a compliment.
what the heck do you mean 'oldschool gone progressive'? he did go pretty soft at the end - with the cass and slide remixes and whatnot. i just remember a bunch of those sitting in the record store for months collecting dust. though i guess progressive is coming back into fashion again.. ..it's just another party.. |

The Bus album is very cool. Nothing like the psy that you hear nowadays. Totally different style.

Dom is living in Ibiza and just had a baby. George is still living in London and is still playing. James live in Brazil and is involved in Tropical Beats Records and is also busy releasing new progressive tribal house.
Gus was never an original member. He came in later and worked with the guys on Slinky when he joined Flying Rhino as the label manager after Sally left. |

just to set the record straight - the first slinky wizard track was the wizard - writtten by myself,Ronnie Biggs,Dom Lamb and Si P. The Rising was somthing that Dom and Adam wrote together around the same time we formed Slinky and we incorporated it into the colllective as we thought it would be great for the flip side. Technically speaking Slinky was given life in the womb of Butterfly studios where Si P was the in house engineer. Me and Ronnie were writing together, Dom and Adam were writing together and Ronnie and Simon had a band together called Purple Om. Simon had told us that Youth had said we could use his studio for the night and the Wizard was born, under the influence of an astral visiit from Raj Ram. So in a way all the trance dinosaurs of today were represented! Youth loved the track and wanted to release it, but pretty soon we were approached by Dave Wesson of Zoom to set up a label and thats when the Rhino was born.
Since then, Dom and I were always at the heart of the Slinky outfit, with Gus joining and also becoming a permanent fixture. Friends and family would often join up for a session, and that was alllways the vibe. Everyone allways asks why we never put out an album, and I think its coz we allways thought tracks were over so quickly and we just wanted to put them out as we made them and get on with the next thing. I never really felt that trannce albums of artists were that interesting, with the obvious exception of a few ultra talented folk eg Atmos and Kox Box. In those days no one was trying to make a career or anything,as there was no money to be made at all and the sole motivation was to get the tracks out on a trancefloor as quickly as u could. Gus and I spoke recently of doing some wizard stuff, and who knows, if the vibe happens in the studio then of course itl happen.
Meanwhile Im writing with Dick Trevor and a very talented Israeli lady - Anna and releasing on Iboga. Although our music might appear progressive and less obviously psychedelic, I reckon its just as trippy...just more subtle and I hope equally danceable...if not we are definately falling short of what we are aiming for. |
