Hey i have heard people bringing there HiHats into their mix this way lots now (example here by Scorb)

http://rapidshare.com/files/142177146/scorb.mp3.html

It starts fast for a second and slows down to the tempo you want. im sure its pretty easy to achieve by loading into a sampler or something, but I am wondering if there is an easier way or a specific technique to doing it, as I have also heard it in Zen Mechanics & headroom, seems to be a popular tecnique.

Any Sugesstions?!

too easy
just chop it on 1/32 and have volume fade in... over 8 bars... then start the normal loop

altho i use it alot too , in other waqys not like this specific example.. but there is better ways , heaps more safisticated

i will work on quick demo so im not just talk in the air post in 20 minutes or so

cool, yea thats what i thought the way u just described or same but in a sampler, i was just wondering if there were some other way, as whenever i've heard it in a song its sounded exactly the same each time

there are milion ways to get to the same sound

maybe they use even some retriger something and automate the timing , but i highly dought there is easier way then audio or midi chops

one way i can think of that is easier for me is with FL sampler arp on 1 octave and automate the speed.. thats your best bet to make aphex twin like stutter sounds specialy on the hole loop not just hihat

Try emulating a hi hat with an LFO on a the synth, then just slow down the lfo           -------------- Dark & Twisted Night Psy --------------

ABLETON LIVE
http://www.sendspace.com/file/u0yvke

Track 1 - Audio before bounce
Track 2 - Audio after bounce
Track 3 - Everything together, last two played hi hats warped to the 1/8th notes before normal hi hat pattern

I can't listen to the sample you've provided louder than a whisper but from what I gather this is very similar..? and sloppy

Found the headphones.
Here's as close as I can get permitting time.
The last 3 hihats are exactly on the first three 16th notes of the last quarter note then there is a little tambourine on the final 16th, which I just threw in a open hat for.
Things I would mess with to make it exact are the length of the straight 16th loop before tempo change and the curve of the tempo change. I also might not use a full loop because the warp makes it sound splashy.

Load a hihat sample in a sampler that has looping controls. Automate the loop end from short to long or use an envelope to control it. Play a held out MIDI note during the time you want the speed to change. Adjust the automation until it sounds good and feels like it goes into the pattern part well.

Then switch to regular MIDI notes for the pattern with the loop as large as it can be.           ~Airyck~
