Pay attention, everyone: This is what the future sounds like. It's a "psychill" album (if we can even use the term) that draws from more than the regular list of influences that influence trance and psychill music (though the traditional influences aren't forgotten, like the generous helping of Indian Classical sounds on this album). No, Slackbaba also is clearly in touch with the world of breakbeats, drum 'n' bass, and maybe even dubstep -- all that "bass music" that tends to exist in a separate world from trance and chill. He's managed to really fuse the two in a more intelligent, balanced way than many producers who have attempted this; the tracks are big, open, and atmospheric, lushly textured, and trippy as hell, with all the crunchy psy leads you could ask for, yet the tracks ride on funky-ass breakbeats and big rolling basslines that would blow up a dancefloor. This doesn't mean it isn't deep and engrossing enough to stand up to detailed listening. But essentially I see this is a hell of a good party album. I hope to hear it in the open air, loud as fuck, this summer.

Yes! He does some good stuff. Another artist that's definitely crossing traditional stylistic boundaries.

augh...
such a statement cannot be ignored...so I went to check the previews...ready for a Star Trek...
(moreno...on myspace...LiquidRec sells the future but the website is a bit prehistoric...no players).
well...I didn't find any future in those sounds...it sounded to me a bit like Ott or Sphangle just more upbeat...with boring basslines and the usual flush and splash fxs borrowed from classic psytrance.
the track with Atomic Drop is cheese.
actually Gaudi's album is for sure more trendy than this one....ahahahah. |

Christ, Maux, there's no need to be a dick. There's REALLY no need to insult other artists. Everybody in this psychill scene is doing it for the love of the music; if you don't like it, that's OK, but nothing is accomplished by saying snotty things about other artists. I like Slackbaba's music and I like your music too. Does Slackbaba use some classic psytrance sounds? Sure he does. Cloudcycle uses some very classic ambient sounds, but that doesn't mean it's not interesting or forward-thinking. Psychill is certainly not a type of music where artists have any need to compete or put each other down. If you say shit like this about other artists, it doesn't hurt them, and it sure as hell doesn't make people want to support you.

and again...
I really liked the first album to start with, but after time I only really like a couple of tracks. I thought the samples of this sounded terrible, disappointing even, sounds almost like pop music... Shame there's no 4x4 tracks ...

it seems that many of you give too much importance to what I write and about my taste..
excuse me...where did I insult Johnny's music ?
is it boring bass lines an insult ?
is it cheese an insult ?
is putting him next to names like Ott and Sphangle an insult ? (I reckon is a compliment for him).
is it sayin that he uses classical psytrance efx an insult ?
You too agree on that...so...mmm...
I didn't even express a judgement about psytrance or Ott...you are the one supposing that I think that it is a very stupid music...but I haven't said that...not here at least.
and yes...Cloudcycle can be very classical ambient in some episodes...I don't get offended if you say that...then we can discuss if classic ambient is more or less interesting than classic psytrance if you wish.
the fact that you like my music makes me happy...but it doesn't mean that we have the same taste on all the music out there...
if you want to support me or not...it is your choice...
but excuse me...if you started this topic with an hollywood style exclamation saying:
PAY ATTENTION EVERYONE...THIS IS THE SOUND OF THE FUTURE !
this might be insulting for someone...at least for all those ones who don't think that there is any future in this music.
calling me a dick is an insult...but do not worry...I am not getting upset for such tiny words.
I totally agree with O-I...but if I wrote something like that now you would mangle me.
peace and love

ott plays dub and this album is breaks. totally different things. I like this album, I love the atomic drop track. And what if it sounds mainstream? are we in search for the ultimate alternative sound or what? |
