What does the term "skeptical thought" mean to you? How important do you think it is in life? How, or how much, do you apply this in your decision making and opinion forming? Healthy or dangerous?

Discuss.

Although my initial response to almost anything is skepticism by default, I really think that it has to balance with other factors to be effective. In my experience, too much skepticism has only lead to narrow mindedness and cynicism and too much confidence/trust has only lead to naivety and gullibility.

The main function of skepticism for me is just self-defense - whether financially, intellectually, or even physically. In an ideal world where skewed 'facts', marketing fluff, the well-meaning but misinformed, and flat-out liars weren't so commonplace it probably wouldn't be necessary at all, but all of these and plenty of other dishonest circumstances certainly exist and seem to go unquestioned far too often.           You believe in the users?

Skeptical thought dont have to be a negative thing... It can be used to question or validate few things which we are in doubt about... it is useful to some extent in this screwed up world sometimes coz otherwise there are chances that we can be taken for a ride by misleading stuff and con men or end up making bad decisions...
On the other hand too much skepticism is not good at all as mentioned above by Kane coz it will never get u anywhere if u r skeptical abt everything...
Trust, faith, optimism, innocence etc still works in this world... So we can use skepticism to be on a bit safer side...           ?

Basically i would translate this into "critical" thought

And is something very crucial in our decisions, you have to have the ability to compare and judge and weight situations before you act and act accordingly to the occasion/ current situation

And again for me that depends on your experiences, mistakes that youve learned from, discussions, i really think that wisdom is developed on each person from the critical thought,

for example, bad used knowledge is still knowledge but not wisely used
when you have gain and developed a critical thought, in my humble opinion, you are able to use the knowledge/power for positive actions and bring only good, this is being wise and being able to weight things and bring the balance into situations

Personally I doubt a lot of people's ability to question things.

For me it means to question what we were told, to question authority. Alot of truths being told are not balanced, and a pinch of skepticism is needed to fully understand peoples motives.

I use it quite often when taking stand points in global issues, but tend to use it less around myself and my local enviroment.

I think its not healthy, can be dangerous, but in the same time its very needed.

All in all interesting topic!           www.parvati-records.com

Mom: Go do you your home work Kane
Kane: I dont feel the need to besides why should I do something that has no relevance to my life
Mom: Listen mister, you do not talk back to me that way...better finish it or else i will make you clean grandma's bed...yes that one on which she pees           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive
