Well it seems to me that another "point" of this was to create vst soundbanks as mentioned earlier in the post, this, it seems would be the reason for using the same vst.

However as also mentioned use what you like, its up to you

Well I think we would still get sound banks to share. They would just be more spread out......and I think if people can choose individually we would maybe get a better showcase of patches.

Sorry to be a pain....is hardware allowed? don't think we should discriminate against the hardware user.

nah, I bet someone who has virus will create better sounds than someone with one of those free VSTs..
As I understand it purpose of this "self challenge" is to learn synthesis in general.. That minimogue and arp 2600 I sugested would be too hard for begginers anyway..
But Im thinking that Ilosynth would done the job, and In the end we could collect all the sounds and create isra trance bank of patches as magus sugested..
Than when we learn something we can apply that knowledge to the synth of choice, no matter hardware or software..           http://www.facebook.com/xrayzproductions

Yeah I know. As I said I had personal challenges years ago so theres no need for challenging again but for begginers, this would be nice way to learn some subtractive synthesis instead of just using presets others made.. Everyone can participate and everyone can share patches in the end..           http://www.facebook.com/xrayzproductions

I was thinking more of the sharing patches thing.....All the good ones will get used to death and may spawn lots sameness.

No, no, the rule should be we we start from the default/init patch..
I was refering to sharing patches once the "personal challenge" is done between the "competitors".. We could get them all together in one file so they can be available for download to all and than u can see what others did and how did they get that sound which expands learning curve even more..           http://www.facebook.com/xrayzproductions

Well TBH what does it matter if they get used to death, its up to you if you use them to death, if others do that then its no different from every other synth, ,th epoint is it will teach others how this and that sound was made - if they choose to use them as they are well i guess they didnt learn anything           Check out my site for Video tutorials and other tips & Tricks

Well I will you software rather than hardware as a compromise if that is ok with everyone.

I was thinking of doing it all in Kontact.

PS. I dont think it was a good idea to allow us to re-import samples made from the synth into a sampler, basically you have just allowed an unlimited amount of synthesisers and multi instruments to be created. I thought it was 1 VST ONLY, with the import feature being allowed with the sampler you have everything you ever really need to make a track, 1 vst synth, 1 vst sampler which can become many vst synths etc.

when i said this, i was thinking of using the sampler only for percussion-type sounds. and that's exactly how i am using it. obviously, if you start to spend more time with the sampler than with the synth, that kind of defeats the whole purpose. if you can easily get by without a using a sampler, then simply don't use one.

people, feel free to put additional restrictions to make it more interesting for yourself. it's a personal challenge after all.

also, all the sounds should begin with an 'Init' patch.

about using any synth you want, like i said, one of the bonuses is to compile a patch bank in the end. another, it's just more fun to compare the results, since everyone is using the same thing. while doing the challenge, you'll obviously become very familiar with all the controls the synth provides and it's "character." so after hearing someone else's track and discovering sounds that were completely different from what you were able to come up with, that's going to have a very different impact than if you have to wonder whether the sounds you are hearing are just "typical" sounds that that particular synth you are not familiar with tends to make. that's all.

but with that being said, go right ahead with whatever synth you chose. nobody is going to disqualify you from anything. there's no prize. other than gained knowledge and a bit of good old fun.
