Mine vary alot, its usually either a beat first or a melody.
These days though, I start more often with a chord progression and then just build everything up from that

i make many genres of music but here is how i start most of my songs.
i usually start with an idea i came up with. then i take it and put it into my daw of choice. I then decide rather i want to make the bassline the low end or hte kick the low end. i then group everything like most everybody else does. i setup some sends to record some glitch type stuff to chop up. i also setup the regular sends, several reverbs etc. also i have a template laid out for various types of music in my daw so it makes getting started really fast for example my most common bass synth is already loaded along with synths i use to obtain my other sounds and set to an fx channel. so everything is mapped and ready to go. i also have markers set for intro, verse, chorus, sometimes i throw these out as the track changes but they're there fora general template.

lol set ur bpms.... make a pad, toy with it up and down and with quantize.... dont need to be a pad, cna be any sound.... then just follow the lead
