How do you get start your songs?
Kick and start at the bottom? They start with the melody? the introduction of the track? bar even those you used to do the introductions of his songs? What is the process your production process?

usually with a melody or chord progression. then comes kick and bass (which are usually reworked heavily later on when the structure of the track is finished). i then make a couple of bars of some variations from every theme/idea/melody i had come up with to serve as "library" for later.
then i'll start on the intro and progress chronologically through the track using parts of the "library" whenever they fit.

legal way they work, I think we'll start with the chord progression in my next "song"

When experimenting without any idea:
Kick
Bass
other drums
percussion
and the rest varys.

When I have an idea, I try to start with selecting the key, putting the basic chords of that key down and then start to work on some melodys or progressions.

After that I try to find a suitable kick and drums and then build the bass...(wasnt very successful with this method yet tho^^)

a couple years ago i read someone's idea (i forget who but i think it might have been on this forum) about how maybe there is a formula for calculating what keys your track would sound good in based on the bpm. i don't remember if they ever had a set formula or not, but after considering that notion for a while i came up with this formula (which might be similar to the formula they came up with, i honestly don't remember) - bpm/60=Hz, Hz*2=X, X*2=Y, Y*2=Z and Z is usually a high enough frequency to be within spectrum of felt low audio frequencies, so you can then determine what frequency Z is closest to on a Hz to notes conversion chart, and you then have a base key to attribute to your bpm =]

kick
bass
snare/hat (or hat/snare )
other percussions
FX/pads
leads
snippets of people talking about profound stuff

funny, thats exactly how it goes here..
lets see..
first i open up a fresh clean project in cubase.
then i set up my metering and analyzing tools. setting up a good kick is essential, since that is the predominant instrument in most tracks, once you mastered that, move on towards finding good fx, or making your own, i like to experiment with different vst's, by turning octave down a few notches and move the pitchweel up or down, this should give you some ideas, setting up some basic percussion is essential as well since if you only got your kick n bass running, they might sound good on its own, but its also important how they sit in the mix. once you set all of that up, you can move on to setting up some processing such as side chain compressors. from there take it to the next level by adding some drum rolls, clashes etc. that should do it for one day.
