MEDIUM RECORDS
Silent Sphere: Dance

Silent Sphere finally release a debut album after contributing to many compilations, notably those on Medium/Midijum Records. Simon Weber and Adrian Schaller are the 2 core members of the group, but this album features many collaborations.
1. Gloryland Simon Weber
2. Moving Simon Weber and A. Levine (that’s right, COSMA)
3. Intruder Simon Weber and Adrian Schaller
4. Illumina Simon Weber and Adrian Schaller and DJ Bim
5. Trouble Shooter Simon Weber and Adrian Schaller and DJ Bim
6. Phoenix Simon Weber
7. Electric (live) Simon Weber and Adrian Schaller
8. Dreamer Simon Weber and vocals S.Ryser
9. Chillum Simon Weber and M.Kuoni

a bit about the tracks. Most if not all have excellent vocal samples incorporated. I esp. like that several tracks feature Lord of the Rings samples. Lots of soft synth sounds and harmonic melodies. The sounds are a little on the melancholic tip, but always smooth and flowing in the typical Medium style. This trance definitely looks back to the beginning, before psy separated off.

1. Gloryland: a good opener, a little slow, but it has excellent synth work, really like the airy sound
2. Moving: a bit dark at the beginning, monks chanting throughout, nice buildup, but seems a bit rough.
3. Intruder- ‘my precious’, you can hear gollum say as the track opens. I like the synthy buildup. it reminds me of the old Eye Q records style that I used to love. Very progressive.
4. Illumina: this track starts off almost exactly like the muses rapt track. I like the breakdown with Gandalf talking about when he fell with the balrog… Very beautiful melody punctuated with guitar riffs. Nice stuff. The end really rips it with the synths.
5. Trouble Shooter: LOTR sample: frodo and galadrial at the mirror. Very nicely done.
6. Phoenix: Track is going along fine, then it gets some cheesy guitar. I’m just not a fan of guitar trance myself, but those that are will like this track. Powerful yet progressive. Love the key changes, hate the guitar….sigh.
7. Electric (live): OK its recorded live at a party in Dec 2003. and it’s the first track to the Electric comp from 2002. I kinda wish they had put a new track in for this one. I mean its cool to hear what they sound like live, esp. for someone who has never had the opportunity to do so. And this track is good, but...
8. Dreamer: um, ok, so I can admit that I don’t like vocals in my dance music. Samples are one thing, but… So anyway, the vocals here don’t do it for me.
9. Chillum: wow, I like this one and wish it were faster. Very positive vibe. Puts a smile on my face. Very melodic and beautiful.

my favorite tracks are 3,4, and 5 (those in the power spots on the album) and 9. I only wish they had altered the bass line (changed keys briefly) on those like they did with the Silent Sphere vs. Muses Rapt : Fiesta track on Electric. IMO that just killz it on the dance floor! Its already so progressive that this lil trick wont matter and would actually give it more intensity. (they do it on the last track: Chillum and it is awesome) Final verdict 7/10. Pretty good, but only a few great tracks. Progressive Psy lovers will enjoy this one the most.

It's pretty good, though quite standard in my opinion. I don't know what it is about their style, but I can't listen to it for more than two tracks. So I'll just keep myself to the singles.

But there will for sure be people out there who will like this a lot.

Oh yeah, psunspot, for your information: Fiesta can be found on Passion, and not on Electric.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

I must say the sound of Cosma in Moving touches me.. good track! .. 3, 4, 5 and 9 are pretty good as well. Not really my fav. style, but a pretty fair album!

good solid debute album from the Swiss duo.
nice flowing melodic full on, not to eager and not too fluffy.

best trax are the proggy opener (Gloryland)
the amazing track with Cosma (Moving)
the atmospheric guitar bonanza (Phenix)
and the nice remix to Electric

Silent Sphere swiss band composed of Simon Weber & Adrian Schaller presents their debut album Dance on Midijum with a mastering made by Marc Engeman (Element).

Track 1. A puffing start for this album which let entersee the musical universe of Silent Shepere (here Simon Weber in solo) in its qualities (morning emotionnal stuff) & drawbacks (some clubbytrance tones for example), the kind of good enough stuff for a warm up album.

Track 2. This one has the particularity to be produced with Cosma, it results a darker morning atmosphere typical from latest Cosma’s production on Nonstop , at 4’00 you got a classic cycling up arpeggiator theme ; Globally you’ve got a more emotionnal content than in previous one.

Track 3. It’s maybe one of the most clubbytrancey influenced tune in its tones but don’t worry not that much as i enjoy it.

Track 4. Silent Sphere teams with Dj Bim for this one deeper with a short piano break after 4’00, the thing evolves into something more dancefloor which could be compared to some Protoculture’s tunes.

Track 5. Also made with Bim, Trouble Shooter is less attractive evoluating in a darker atmosphere.

Track 6. Another Simon solo track with guitar this time for the break, then once again evolves into something close to Protoculture sound even if the guitar remains during this moment.

Track 7. Electric is without doubt one of the highlight of the album for me. It’s a live version recorded at a Midijum label party. The tune is happy, bouncy even if on the end some tones will sounds clubbytrance for somebody.

Track 8. Some vocals here which aren’t really interesting too clubby & contributes more to ruin the track than anything else nevertheless musically speaking it’s good, some arpeggios with sweet & nice leads.

Track 9. Made with M.kuoni, as the name says it , we’re processing a chill-out tune now, like if we aren’t be refreshed enough with the 8 first songs, beautifull, comtemplative & emotionnal, with an accoustic guitar imitation melody.

Favorites :3,4,6,7,8

An nice morning refreshing album for a sunny summer, the only worry would be are you strong enough to resist to the present all along clubby-trance influences & that’s the question.
7,5/10
