Nemesis is the debut album of Silent Horror; the person behind this project is Jigar, an Indian artist, whom the main orientation for his music is aimed for the night – I had several chances to speak with him via online (messenger), and he tells me, making music is a great stress reliever and more rewarding to make this sonorities, above all others styles. This album was released in 2007 and it is, till date, the last release of Devils Mind Records – a label mainly focused to release music orientated for the night. In their discography they count with “Refused” who in my humble opinion is a “total smasher” of a compilation.

But let us see what “Nemesis” brought us:

Triptalgin (T1) reveals the direction this album will take. The start of this track, goes on a relative smoothness, and slowly goes in a crescendo, till reaching a climax at about 3:30 minutes. In the meanwhile we can hear some samples, and if I am not mistaken they are from JigSaw, from the movie Saw, and also some opera samples on the background. You can also expect some long leads in second plan, coming together with the frontal madness.

Nemesis (T2), the track that gave name to the CD, is the track that follows. From a different mood, than the previous tune, it begins with a notorious presence on the kick and bass. The commencement is very hypnotic, with long leads and ambiguous, vague sounds. In fact, this is a tendency that is present through the entire track, but things will get more dynamic and expect in some momentums of the tune, like a double bass, or a double kick in a contra tempo. Also some spacey sounds will come on the mixture.

Philanthropy (T3) starts with some rubber effect leads, and some blurred, obscure noises in the background, and slowly it goes acquiring twisted lines here and there. This one doesn’t have too many ups and downs; it follows a very straight line of music, and doesn’t run much from there. In the end we are presented with some melodious leads, turning more to a spooky, scary side.

Abnormal Force (T4) comes with some frightening sounds, very similar to those we hear in movies from the 60´s. The environment of this track is surrounded by a frightening atmosphere; nevertheless this one trashes a lot with some electrifying sounds and some twisted ups and downs on some leads.

Vengeance (T5) begins with some cartoon samples, speaking precisely of vengeance. This tune is rich on “rubber” lead effects, and some long and unclear sounds on the background, giving a twilight feeling on the 1st moments of the tune. And once more we are presented with the trashing effect that is common on Jigar music.

Hypnotic Melody (T6) is, like the name explains, an incursion through hypnotic landscapes. It begins with an introductory minute with almost no sounds, till we are hit by the vision of Jigar. Some leads remind me Indian war chanting, and of course like we can expect, the electrifying feeling is there, twisting and turning to deeper and deeper realms. I got the feeling of this tune not being to filled in terms of sounds, I felt something was lacking, though I wasn´t able to see what it is.

Aztec Spirit (T7) begins with some jungle feelings, and some long leads in the background. Probably the jungle feelings are an approximation to the Maia´s culture and way of living. This beginning presented music somehow restrained – deep and introverted, and slowly becoming more open, with the addition of more leads, sounds and glitch tricks. It flows on a regular basis; it doesn´t push the boundaries to much, excepting when it is headed for the finale, in which it becomes more lively. One thing that it is noticed is a long lead that is present through the whole tune in the background, or at least in the parts where few sounds are used it is there: soft mad weird lead.

Doomed (T8) is the fastest tune of the album with a BPM of 154. Does the name vanguard tell something to some? Well I believe it does, and the vanguard synthesizer is well present on this track. The first two, three minutes of this track, seem too “dry” and I think they needed more addition of other sounds; it becomes too empty this way, I think, and in a certain way a little bit disconnected. Nevertheless the tune at about the 3 minutes of life, starts to get more dynamic and energetic and all the combined sounds start to flow in a more melodious way – the trashing way – and seems more natural the final result.

Humanoid (T9) starts with some distorted samples, and enters in a dark mood, with a dry kick and an impressive bass line. It goes with some phantasmagorical and spooky leads on the background and more upfront some rubbing sounds. There is also in this tune some spacey leads, and exciting sonic construction. Of course, like we couldn´t miss the trashing sharp sound of Jigar is there.

Last Laugh (T10) begins with some weirdo samples, seeming like mechanical, and sometimes organic, and with this overture enters a strong dry kick with a bass line very deep. Some hypnotic sounds, rubber effects and spiralling feelings compose this track. Once more we are presented with a tune that isn´t for the fainted heart.

And so we reach the final track of the album, and my favourite tune. Lost And Never Found (T11) begins with some female samples, and some filters distorting some resonances. After this prologue we are presented with a banging sound on the kick and bass, conferring a nice rhythm into the tune; of course the leads, bring a special touch to danceable side, and they come on a twisted atmosphere, with lots of sounds, some of them vague, and others more rushed. More to the 3:52 minutes the track suffers a little boost; things get speedier and the leads turn to the electrifying type, and we hear again the work of kick and bass in contra tempo.

The mastering of the CD was made by Xenomorph and Colin Bennun.

The artwork was made by oHm @ Illumination design.

So to conclude my review, I just want to say, that if you are a connoisseur of Jigar music, this is a must have because there are in this album good ideas and tricks, acidic lines, twisted melodies and even touching scary and sometimes hypnotics realms; or simply if you like hard, abnormal music in the night with a strong presence on the kick and with fat bass lines then you should try this release.
