today i was reflecting on one of the Taoist sayings that laws and morality were signs of decline of the human spirit, that in the original condition people mind only themselves and did not think of and try to take advantage of others and consequently the concept of morality and even law never even arose in people's mind. it was only after people's spontaneity and character declined and tried to take advantage of each other that they invented morality and laws to protect themselves. i really believe that one of the functions of spirituality is to restore us to this "original" spontaneity/ innocence so that morality and laws could once again be dispensed of and forgotten. and art would be a good means of elevating peoples's sprituality.
