I believe i was trying to sidechain the vb1 sintead of the tritium. I was doing A --> B to see which one sounds better.

a good quality side chain for ducking a bassline is in my oppinion made with a trigger signal.
if you simply use the kick as trigger, you'll run into problems between breaks or when only the bassline is playing without the kickdrum.
basically just use another kick sample as a trigger signal, route the trigger to the sidechain and look out that it is silent in the final mix.
so when you stop the actual kick drum (the one you hear) you can still continue sending the trigger signal. the velocity of the trigger can soften or increase the effect of the sidechain. or just use a different beat while playing a breakbeat to use the sidechain on the snare... alot more flexibility...
