many of tips. many many. but for you real answer is (drum rolllll) velocity! just less velocity when kick is playing and more when there is no kick.
or just put sidechain same way like on bass.
but this stioll doesnt make your hihats shorten

hahahahha
also you take a god (i mean good ) tips about mixing and tune. yes tune is very important. sometimes we can feel music as slower if there is wrong tune on drums - its just one example.
i spend a lot of time in choosing proper hihats (+mix +tune) but maybe its just my deviation

the velocity trick is one of the best in fl, gives your hihats some dynamic movement.
put a kbbb going, fill every space with a closed hat, send it to piano roll, then go to 'tools' click quantitize, navigate between presets and you'll see the dynamic factor kicking in

ok, here is another one, if you have 2 hihat channels with hihatloops, post delay one channel 2milliseconds...

Yes, post delay works for me too, try to layer two openhihats when one goes as one and another goes with post delay, can be 0,5 ms to 5 ms, you will hear it when you hit the sweet spot while adjusting it.. Tribal loops i use often post delay too.
For closedhihats i usually give every second one little bit post delay, but i do it in pianoroll, in FL just moving them one to two steps works fine.
And yea, right sample, tune, velocity comes first. Then leght and position and rest of the triks..
