Is there a way to sidehain hihats to make them shorter?
I´ve managed to duck my bass with the fruity controller and it worked fine.
But i have no clue how i can do something
similar with hihats to make them shorter

Thanx for any help

Make them shorter, draw them shorter, cut them or choose another sample or play with ADSR, or put gate on them…

I agree with Xsze. Don't use sidechain to change the length of your hats. Maybe to give them some swing, but not the length.. Doesnt make sense.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

right click on the hats channel, untick 'cut itself' and draw them to your length liking, the shorter you draw them, the shorter they will sound

Indeed make the midi/ audio source shorter...
maybe you can use a dynamic shaper

if you are not an ADSR dude (and you should for this) you can use a transient shaper to accentuate the attacks and lesser the decays.           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

Orange's tip, and you can compress the hats with a fast attack and a relatively short release...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

tja conny, jag visste inte att du proddade också Har du något material man kan få provlyssna?

När det gäller att få en hihat kortare är det sidechain duckningen du vill åt eller är det igetnligen bara en kortare hihat? mitt tips om du bara vill göra den kortare är att klippa av den och köra fade out på volymen på filen eller annars köra timestretch.

I normally use Sonnox Dynamics for that -> pick 'buss' preset first, then add gate in and start tweaking from threahold, then attack for smooth and finally realease. Then go to comression section if you like, normally i tweak mostly threshold there..

Another option make the sample fit is use pianoroll or adsr from FL sample editor like others said.. i normally dont use any comression for hihats, exept in group channel with other percussions or with Sonnox, but more often i add some nice tube effect which makes hihats more harmonic and compress them little. I like hihats more smooth and dirty than too hard and clean. Also fast lfo i use somethimes to make hihats more 'broken'.           - - - - -

What i really want to do is to have the hihats to fit my song better in the same way as when you sidechain kick and bass. But i don´t really know what i should sidechain the hihats to.
Maybe sidechain them to both kick and bass?

add swing, like 66% or 88% to them..that makes them more interesting usually..

sidechain makes not much sense imo..it would only be helpful if something is in the way frequency wise and you would like to duck over it..           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

I would use sidechain if i have a situation when one element eats others room, kick and bass not necessarily eating hihats room that much, so sidechain gives no that much effect.

You can try this too; When you have openhihat 150% velocity add next to it another one with only 50% velocity, so if your hihat goes every 3rd put that another one every 4rd, when kick is 1st. Then it should 'drive' more in the mix.

after all that i think you have a mixing issue..

sidechain on hihats makes sense only if you have a rooling hihat sequence playing.
good old offbeat hihat doesnt really take any advantage from sidechain.

try to eq your hihats better and fix the decays with adsr and also work little bit with the velocity response of them to make them more dynamic in the mix.

and ofcourse choose the right sample.. sometimes even a slight tonality deference can cause the hihat not to fit as expected.           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/
