hello all,

i seen a post on here by concerning side-chaining bass and kick, Now my problem is i assign the side-chain to the kick and the compressor to the bassline. Everything's sorted except i recall reading in the post i had press key-input on the compressor, however this is not possible, it is faded as if it inactive? I'd be more then happy if anyone can solve this minor but important problem for me.

cheers everyone,
love and light.           .:TO INFINITY AND BEYOND:.

This is how it should be done.
Attack should be slightly higher, depends when the bottom of the bass comes in, so you can still hear the transient of the bassline.
I always use minimum release time, and zero hold.
Now all that you need to do is play with the threshold until it sounds perfect.

The post regarding side chaining was based on Waves C1 compressor, so the actual procedure of assigning the left input (the hard panned left kick drum) to be the trigger for the bassline (hard panned right) may be different, but should be in tc somewhere.

On waves, there is a button where it scrolls thru "stereo", "L->R" or "R->L". It's the last two which define which side of the stereo compressor will be used for triggering (the description above uses the left for triggering).

Check the manual (if you have one) or get hold of the waves plug (which is very good).

Hope you find the secret button dude

Just as I press the submit button to post the above response, I remember (I think). For TC, I think there is a separate plug in which must be used to send the signal to the compressor plug in (have a look at your list of plug ins to see if there is a key send or similar plug in, try putting it on either the bass or kick and see if the inactive button become available. If not, try sending it from both kick and bass and see if that works.

Hope this is the right solution for you, and I can stop typing really long post's

That plugin in the sidechainer, and it it's turned on you should be able to use key input.

I can corroborate that, I've seen that same problem, no idea how to fix it.

Rishi - What version did you use that worked?
I looked on the TC site and they said they weren't releasing any new versions of that plugin, so they could concentrate on their hardware plugins.

Anyway OOOD Colin's guide to the Waves SC is very good, not as simple as the TC method but it's a good learning excercise...
