Can Shpongle be consi-terd to be World Music?

I guess so since he steals all his sounds and ideas from the rest of the world...he should be conciderd a mashup dj with a live synth.

He is one of the top most boring djs ever!
He looks like he dosent even likes his tunes anymore.
The more fans he gets the worse his music is or his drive to make good music is one of the two.
What happened?

Old Hallucinogen is still cool i guess...
The Lone Deranger was the shit! ( my 1st psytrance cd )

Maybe he needs to give up on the dub and go back to Psytrance?           \\\"Invoking the inner dancing buddha with future frequencies from beyond\\\" ~GyPsy

I would much rather see a younger brother set... I don't get why YB never seems to get booked.

Edit: Also I hate the term "world music" because it implies that the US/Europe is not part of the world.

For me its really sad to see, their old music was some of my favs for a long time and is still really good to chill at home and listen to. Like I said earlier my 1st psytrance cd was Hallucinogen. I have seen him play a few times and it was the same kinda grumpy face every time, even when I saw Younger Brother live he seemed to look like he could care less about the music he was just going through the motions. It was a lot like Emily's post lots of young dreadies and shoes covered in beer and slime. The place just wreaked of DMT (melting plastic) no ventilation but a balcony so we didnt have to be in the clump of madness we chose the cloud of smoke and beer as the less of two bad spots to try to watch from. The Boulder crowd eats that psydub sound up man... packed every time!           \\\"Invoking the inner dancing buddha with future frequencies from beyond\\\" ~GyPsy

mixed feelings on this thread (and all threads where Posford is mentioned)...

on one hand, there seems to be a frustrating trend within psytrance (and most other proudly "underground" scenes) to hate on those members of the scene that "succeed" beyond a certain arbitrary acceptable threshold. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, it seems like members of this community tend to have such a strong sense of ownership of the culture, music, etc. that they end up passing extremely harsh judgment on any artist who (deliberately or not) attracts a fanbase that is outside the comfortable norms of the scene. Valuing the sense of community that comes with being a part of a small scene is one thing, but IMO, in some cases this ends up mutating into a very ugly elitism and exclusivity.

But on the other hand I also think that lively discussion and uninhibited expression of opinions is a good thing, and helps to keep the culture/art evolving. So I'll add my own bit of critique...

I will make no effort to hide the fact that Posford is one of my biggest sources of inspiration, and if I had to live the rest of my life with only the works of a single musician available to me, it would be him. I could write pages and pages explaining why, but frankly it would all ultimately just be my opinion, and no amount of prose could give much meaningful insight into the vast catalog of experiences that have lead me to feel how I do.

All that being said, it would really be nice to see a bit more effort put into the Shpongle DJ set shows... Maybe a laptop + Ableton, an APC40, a Lemur, and a few nice hardware effects units? Live vocalist, and/or Simon playing some live keys/guitar?

and maybe some new god-damned Hallucinogen material while we're at it!?!

David Byrne is the man. Shpongle should play live. Something about a guy who's DJing from a total catalog of 20-30 songs doesn't appeal to me. A certain amount of spontaneity is required for it to be fun. Hearing Shpongle songs on a big system is cool, but I have some pretty big F*&king speakers so, yeah.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on Simon. We've been down this road on Isra plenty of times before. I enjoy most of his music

Judge only the output: where music takes YOU as an individual.

We will be at the Atlanta show enjoying our ears and hearts being moved. Will anyone else be there?
