Should everyone produce?

I need something to do at work today so I'm opening this topic up for discussion. With all the pirated software we can assume that almost anyone can obtain a DAW and enough plug-ins/samples to start producing music.
That being said, should anyone who can get their hands on the equipment produce just because they can? I'm all for letting people do what they want, and by no means do I think someone should actively be finding producers they hate and tell them to stop, but theoretically, if someone is just making complete garbage (no phrasing, no sense of harmony, completely random structure, etc) should they really stop? I know musical taste is subjective, but if you look at the examples I gave you can put together in your head the monstrosity that it would create. My main thought on this is that someone utterly terrible at production should find something they're better at and spend their time on that. There's also the other side of the coin, in that someone creating something like this might be onto creating something completely new and thus their new ideas shouldn't be snuffed out to fit our idea of what "music" is.
I don't think there's a black and white way to look at this thought, but I'm interested to hear what people think. If I was faced with someone producing like this, I would try to guide their skills to creating something- not necessarily outright tell them to stop. Maybe they make some good sounds and I tell them to send some to me to use in a track and give them credit. Who knows? Thoughts? Opinions?

Just because you have a hobby doesn't mean you're good at what you are doing. Some people do stuff because it makes them feel good, and if you're lucky to have a gift then just embrace it and stop questioning why.
And besides, just because there is tons and tons of pirated software all over the internet doesn't automatically mean that everyone downloads. In here I've seen a intresting turn towards the opposite of my previous statement though. 1 day after a warezgroup released Cubase 5, there were already questions about how to get the most out of the new Reverence reverb plugin. We have a legit C5 Studio copy so we don't have to worry about getting the most of Reverence because it's not even included in C5 Studio.
To sum it up, your thoughts upon chaotic production and 'professional' work is quite interesting. I started out with musicproduction about 13 years ago. If it weren't for my patience and 'Trials n Errors' I would probably not have been doing what I do today.
So there's always a flipside.
Peace
A

I've thought about this recently. With painting and even poetry, there are ways to break the confines of standard structure and go in many different directions that are not ordinary. But with music, there is always the time constraint for me that rolls music along. There's always changing time signatures, but the timing issue is still always there.
I don't see why anyone shouldn't be able to make music or try to. Maybe they are actually really creative, and having music software enables them to use some of that creative energy. But at the same time, if a friend who had never created music before tried to produce, in most, if not all cases, the music would just be them trying to imitate a certain style of music rather then creating anything earth shattering.

whoa whoa whoa. so since there's only 1 thread about reverence and it was posted by me, i feel like this is directed at me.
so, next time i have a question about cubase, do you want me to start it with a picture of me holding a box from Cubase 5 (not "studio") and a big "FUCK YOU" sign?
wtf?

Most of the "availability of software on the internets" reasoning is that there is no initial monetary investment to deter someone with no money to give production a shot. It's easier to half-ass something you have no money invested into.
I'm not trying to make some creative boundaries, but I'm more thinking about the argument that people's time might be better spent doing something else. In the end though, enjoying what you're doing is the most important thing and there should never be a restriction on that.

This is not the only production forum I visit, I just took the first thread that came into my mind (which is located here). And it wasn't directed towards you. Unfortunatly the thread came in bad timing, I was assuming, Point taken. Sorry if I offended you.

I think the problem with no real musical skill trance artists is that they have some elevated illusions of their true contribution to music, esspecially if anyone can pick up a daw and sound passable.
Even more problematic is that people mimic what they like, so remaining unique and successful is a very temporary thing. Unless ofcourse its difficult to copy you because you actually have some skills and are making hard stuff to copy like infected.

yup. it's all good.
as far as the topic, yeah, i think everyone should be producing, if that's what they want. i don't think anybody in their right mind would be forcing themselves to produce, unless that's what they wanted to do. so if that's what people chose to do with their time, out of all the millions of other things they could be doing, then what's the problem? nobody forces you to listen to their crap they post. you can chose to check it out or not.
plus, how do you know if by encouraging people to find something better to do, you are not simply shifting the problem somewhere else? if the person decides to go and start basket-weaving, instead of production. then next thing you know, there's a thread on some basket-weaving message board of someone complaining about all these basket-weaving n00bz weaving these fucking predictable mediocre baskets.
you should be ashamed of yourself.

Its a free world we live in. I'd be a cunt to say for example Axis shouldn't produce any music just because I don't like it, even if it made him happy and a better person, innit.

Why do you worry about other people wasting their time?
What other people choose to do with their lives is not yours, nor my, business.
Whether someone is good or bad at producing in someone elses opinion is irrelevant, because you're not familiar with their reasons for doing it.
I used to be a competitive golf player, so statistically speaking I find that most other players suck. Yet they seem to thoroughly enjoy the game, even though I wouldn't come to watch them play. Are you seriously suggesting that I should tell people to stop doing something they enjoy just because they're no good at it from a competitive point of view?
Then there's the issue of learning curve. I used to suck at production, but I don't anymore. It took a few years. For some people quickly, others longer. Maybe they have a day job. Etc. How much time should be allotted?
Sorry for the bashing, but philosophy 101 should show you what a dead end you're in.... |

I'm teacher and I must say that I have seen too many persons who have become teacher but actually better should not have. On the other hand I've seen many persons who would be great teachers but they can't be one due to limitations or too high goals in the teacher-training-education.
I also heard a lot of musicians who I wished I had better not heard. On the other hand I also talked to so many listeners and music fans who so entirely understood what music and art is about but did not make music themselves because it's too difficult, the believe they couldn't or they lack the means.
It's a free world anyways, but personally I'm giving away all my knowledge about music and I'm actually convinced that it will lead to more good music in total.

You completely missed my summations of this topic denis.
Also, it's not hard to not take a topic seriously that starts with "I need something to keep me busy at work today" . http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
