Hi guys, I haven't visited this forum in a long while. I read the linked article, There are some good tips but I would like to add a word of caution: The article mentions bunging the reflex ports of your monitors to get a sealed cabinet response. Monitors that have a closed cabinet design can indeed give more accurate low-end response and a more gentle roll-off of the bass response but the monitors (should) use drivers that are designed for the purpose.
There are two main issues with bunging the reflex ports of your monitors: First up, you change the monitor response in a way that might make you add too much bass to your mixes. So while you solve one problem, you create another.
The more important issue is that it takes more energy to produce bass in a sealed cabinet. Normally you need long-throw drivers to do this. Also, the drivers need to be designed to have better ventilation as there is no cooling air coming in from the outside. If you seal a monitor cabinet that is not designed to be sealed, there is a risk that you damage the bass drivers of your monitors.
Cheers,
