Track listing:
1. No More Humans
2. White Widow (Rmx)
3. Xtrasensory
4. Centrifuge
5. Don't U Know?
6. Reflex
7. Digital D.N.A
8. Animated Logic
9. Infra-red

1. No more humans
the machine world...a metallic intro, "...things hardly ever fuck up around here..." and straight into the techy drive, full of crispy fx. a mild funk is brewing, and as it grows, squelchy leads lead us into the now nearly trademark (well in my mind anyways) vibrating bendy synth creaky sounds that i will hear in my dreams from now on. this is overlayed over a dark distorted guitar riff and continues pumping away! the whole giant engine funks and chunks along, "i dont think that what ive done is a crime..." then the maniacal laughter sends us into the buzzing, rockin finale, which takes us thru caves, battling giant beetles that growl as the epic, tweaked long paddish notes give a very dark flavor.

2. White widow rmx
and a nice one here, a thick remix of White Widow, previously released on SST records. again with a very slicing metallic edge to the percussion and fx, a rolling deep funky bassline emerges. it begins a gbuzzing takeoff, then we are faced with the squeaking duck acid line, which has really cool detail. it comes off really deep and weird, driving along in a metronomic robo-spider, and it begins to pick up further with a heavily delayed staticky pad, which gives a whole other dimension to the scene unfolding. a couple dramatic stop and switch-up moments greet us with a round and scribbly acid line, and the convertation-- between that, and a few of the other sounds, which are growing and flexing as the beat rolls on all mechanical and darklike-- provides a well detailed 3-dimensional story that really makes this track solid.

3. X-Trasensory
another buzzy stomper, delayed distorted grindy sounds groove over glumpy flowing deep bass goo. =) the buzzing duck quack sound really rocks, its just tweaked and phazing back and forth left to right like you are being chased by some strange beast over unfamilar scrolling, hilly landscapes. techy percussions fill up, then it all drops out, the world has dropped out from under you, and you can hear the resonating radio waves out in the atmosphere.... a thick arpeggio emerges, creates a gravity field that draws you back to the lumpy land, the tension is building, colors and air pressure fluxes as the sounds build on each other, an epic dark anthemic leadline shows us that this journey we are on is mythic in proportion, and threatens to absorb you! all elements combine to send shivers up my spine, a huge wall of many details cascades over my ear-scope, and i cannot type enough to reflect the grooving intensity captured here. the radiosphere echoes in our memories as it all fades away.

4. Centrifuge
a flanged electric guitarish sound wails with long reverbed notes, starts pumping away early on... it gets mad staccato and the track is rockin. it has all the parts necessary to make dancers freak out, a real drivin acidy slammer. a loopy loop-de-loop fx sound gets us out of the breakdown, theres some nice scribbly sounds in the back, and a great Fckn snare to punctuate the flowing bio-mechanical acid blastoff. the second breakdown comes off a tad ravey at first for me but wins me over as it gets twisted and tweaked. it spins and spins and bolts of lightning crackle as circuits overload, the inertia is strong here... the guitary synth comes in at the end to wash clean the slate.

5. Don't u know ?
yet another pumping rhythm and odd atmosphere, the strange notes give an alien feeling, the pulsing evokes industrial funky feelings. at 1:20, the technoid groove is really top notch, it gets enhanced and bounces in a very sure-of-itself way, strange lazery blasts enter and it leads us to a growling beast squeaking and flailing. it has a mind control device that sends sonar pulses out into the area, and a wobbly slide whistlesound is the re-charge which allows the beat to restart, it comes and goes 2x more, building and de-constructing the groove. the monster growly sound comes in to initiate the final stretch, the bassline gets a bit more funky, and the whole system is cruising. mighty thick slamming metallic buzzy dancefloor annihilator anyone?

6. Reflex
this one also pumps along with a long wailing lead synth. it has a very persistent dark funk that screams along, buzzing, zooming, grinding, driving, wierd and somewhat ominous trails streaming everywhere. presents us with a deep and murkey environment that throbs along.

7. Digital D.N.A
definitely one of the blasters here, this one comes on strong with the growly buzzing bendy lead over the deep rolling funk stomp that seems to flow effortlessly from this artist.
somehow it is standing out among the others, it hits very hard and with a vengeance... lazers blasting grindy growls as strange beasts rear thier heads. it has a nice part that gets a bit sad almost, then it blasts you once you are feeling like things have calmed a bit, it morphs back into a swirly rocker, the last two minutes shoot you down a streaky tube network with blinky lights zooming past in so many streaks.

8. Animated Logic
a somewhat hollow kick gets fatter as a squeakly sound skwawks. it swirls around and slippery trails of staticky sound reverb deeply as the beat rolls on chunky as funkin hell. it all spins and zooms and slams in the appropriate places, really taking off and speeding along like so many squelchy insect-rocketships.

9. Infrared
the finale track here, yet another full on masterpiece. epic and deep qualities overflow, while maintaining an aggressive edge that drives relentlessly. the giant sound builds and grows until the voices send us into the last blast on the disk, my head is pounding as the energies flow upward and all around, creating a forcefield of huge sound circulating around the central flowing pulsating beat structure. the bendy creaky sound again!

this disk is certainly ruling, full of blow-up dark nighttime rock-out zoomers. and while it came out in december 2003, it hasnt been reviewed yet here... at least i couldnt find it up here

my favorites are 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9
its not really a cd for home listening, but since it was designed to blast dancefloors, it will resonate thru many open spaces and rip holes in the space time continuum.

Just thought I'd post my review...in short...amazing!

Track listing:
1. No More Humans
2. White Widow (Rmx)
3. Xtrasensory
4. Centrifuge
5. Don't U Know?
6. Reflex
7. Digital D.N.A
8. Animated Logic
9. Infra-red

No More Humans – Respect to the opening sample. Total Recall. If there ever was a film to define a “trip”, then that is it! The use of the clean crisp jagged sounds really open this track up. The percussions sing and moves the hair on the arms! Then the chainsaw rips you open; this is where your body is removed from your mind. The harsh construction is simple but it tears you open. This is a holds-no barred opening track, which gets to a high point and doesn’t let go. Very cool indeed.

White Widow (RMX) – Sounds like it has been put through a blender and then served up on a plate somewhere in a tin shed. The sounds are extraordinarily insane. The bass line is subtle but it is a presence. Then a cool melody that sounds like it was lifted from Ibiza. But noticeably it sits in the background wanting to emerge but being showered upon by a dozen crazy mechanical sounds. This is a track that defines the album. It bashes, slashes and takes so much. Love it!

Htrasensory – The bass drives this one in a hectic minefield, with a this cymbal repeatedly bashing. The squelching is uplifting, yet it pushes you down. The kick slowly but surely makes it presence and in the end takes over. But only after a struggle with the dominating squeals! And then nothing…the emptiness. The track is really pumping. The beat is so forceful yet the bass takes a backseat until it is needed. This doesn’t force itself down your throat all the time; it simple plays out in front of you, waiting for you to take it.

Centrifuge – Nice melody to open up what appears to be a downbeat track. The track is soaring but you expect something to reach down and tear out your insides. It builds up again and the tin(ny) sound is catching on. And then a very cool, cool, cool build up, which levels out and the track rolls on. This track has its melodies really sorted out. The distorted aspect of this track borders extraordinary. The sound that’s caught is uber-cool! The track definitely soars!

Don’t u know? – Off balance opening takes the album to a weird, almost medieval place. That melody is almost out of a cheesy Halloween special, or a Goosebumps episode. Very nice inclusion. The cymbals are very compelling while the semi-monster sounding roar is ear catching. The bass races along and the kick pounds!! Very interesting track indeed, nice work on the production, it is right up there as one of the best on the album (as all are).

Reflex – A whaling! Something is dying, or crying. The distorted-ness on this track is immediately felt. The sound that carries through with the crackling is superb. The percussion again is driving this track along. This track rises and falls. And then its builds up to this singular distorted melody. Very cool. It keeps you on the edge, what is going to happen next? And then……..

Digital D.N.A - Shift’s openings are unique. They set the mood. And this really kicks ass!! The 80’s feel to this opening is as cool as anything else on the album, but then this is driven home by the thumping kick! Then some amazing sounds come in and this really send your body to the floor!!!

Animated Logic – One thump and we’re in a weird place with some weird sounds. The kick comes in, slightly distorted, slightly paranoid and then before we know it, we’re in a cool place. The bass is indecisive, which way to go and then it is shown the way. This pounds until we are nothing more than ears on the floor.

Infra-red – A nice downbeat track. Echo galore at the beginning and then some echidna trying to open its mouth. And we’re into it. Through the hole and into a nice beat-able place. Certainly a nice reminder of why this album is so FRIGGIN’ amazing!!!!

What an album! Very well done! The production is so crisp, and Shift does the magic of taking distorted sounds and making them crisp, yet they still are distorted which just makes for a bizarrely awesome sound!!! I am in awe of this sound. What an album. Certainly too amazing for words that I haven’t done it justice. Freakin’ cool! Buy this now, and then buy it again. So so so so worth it.

Fav(s): I loved every track, the only track that didn’t grab me like the others was Animated Logic, but still that uber-cool!!!

Rating: 9/10
