Shift is one of my personal favourites. This cd is close to Twisted System's music and this can't be bad.

i wasn't a big fan of Shift's first album, but "Excession" is just something else!
first of all, since my introduction to R.A.M, Midnight Storm and other releases from Shift's label, i thought to myself: "now, this is something i REALLY like!" . therefore, i was waiting to Shift's second album, and this time i wasn't dissapointed at all; even though it was released on Crystal Matrix, u can easily recognize the familiar south african sound.
the album is so varied, and i love almost all of the traks, but some of them stand out:
Moonchild- i love this blending of south african and Goa sounds. a bomb for sunrise sets.
Closer- nice Remix to NIN and very interesting track.
Toxic Shake- what a mind twisting track!
Da Business- ever since i fell in love with psy-trance i had this addiction to Triolo tracks which gives u the tribal feeling. that's why i like this track very much, and the phone call at the end really surprising!
Plug In and Cerebral Vortex- amazing spacey atmosphere, just how i like it, dark (but not evil) and melodic, definitely the style that defines Shift's label. my big favorites!
to sum it up, recently i was fed up with all those "dark" releases with the same formula and structure, no melodies whatsoever, just scary samples and other boring stuff.
until Shift came... and reminded me how it should be done.
it's important to say that this album is far from being only dark or morning orientated or whatever. it's varied and very interesting. great both for home listenning and for the dancefloor. 9/10

Probably my favorite album of the year so far. I expected so much, and yet Chris delivers even more.
What a nice variety of sounds: dark dancefloor bombs (toxic shake, cerebral cortex), some more free form experimental tunes (stretch, da business), twilight gems (moonchild), classic remixes (closer), and just all around craziness (push it).
Highly recommended.

i'm blown away by the response,,, really glad people are enjoying the growing range within my style
some new things i'm working on since the album::
nexus cd005 "source" is out next month see the promotionl post here for details
nexus cd006 "midnight storm vol2" is under construction
nexus cd007 - brthren album - more news soon
nexus cd008 - shift and slug album - we may give ourselves another name - but the music is coming on nicely - hard twilight to mornig and big psy melodies - i'm excited about this new project
nexus cd009 - second twisted system album - skragg and i have been busy and shit's coming along nice and drark,, monster stuff really,, ian's in england at the mo doing 2 other albums so its hard for him to do stuff for this one but we got a few bit and peices coming soon from him for it.. this one might come on timecode,, not sure.. depends on schedules,, anyway

fuckin killer album.dancefloor monster.scares me and lots of ppl.this south african dark school (can i say that?) its the trend i most like actually.good work shift.keep on this stuff.hope u can play in brazil some time.our countries are really similar.saying it cause i ve had an opportunity to visit south africa...our natural sources.and cities that seems to be twins pretoria=brasilia jnsbrg=st paul and cape town=rio de janeiro hope u come soon bro` |
