Im pretty sure there is no structure in psytrance. No rule for a structure like for instance in hip hop where the common (standard) verse is 16 bars and a song contains three verses etc.In psytrance I didnt notice a particular structure.Listening to goa since 94 although I started to get busy with synth etc since 07.noob here hehe.Nevertheless there is no such structure like in many other genres. But I believe many artists got their own way of structuring along tha years, and could be sorta private style note.#Good luck to you Conny |

Just import a few tracks that you think flowly really well into a project - and cut them up, make empty/blank midi channels to recreate the project. See how it flows. Helped me. |

normally I would help you, but the fact that you consider your knowledge "secret" and don't share it freely makes me not help you.

for free "secrets"...
And of course there are structures of psytrance songs. each style has them very OBVIOUSLY.. this is exactly what pisses me off at parties, since so many songs follow the same structures. best is not to use them. Most of my music for you to download at:

very nice advice

Conny you know what to do when you really got a flow and have a clear idea about the flow... or at least that you want a flow.
this is my first advice:
Work, Pause and Listen.. Use metronome and count beats, feel the flow as you go, if you make a section too long you should notice it casue you feel its too long, then remove 2 bars and see if it flows better.. always be critical about this and dont just put things out,
sometimes it can be a good idea to introduce someting at every first bar or every second bar or every third bar or every fourth bar and so, you decide the pattern.
the idea of tension and release like Chemogen talks about, you decide here if you want to fool the listener or give him/her what was expected, a change or something new, or fool them and introduce nothing and save it up for some real sweet melody or sound...
my best advice is try and feel the track you work with..
use reversed percussion to an advantage but not too much, make small details that can hold sections that are just phase holders to next section..
Sometimes you can introduce a snippet of a sound some bars before that sound become a melody or a sequence just a little introduction to the sound so it wont feel too strange when it hits, on the other hand some sounds really should be surprises and come as one..

2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 so on..
yes im a system engineer^^^
no really, every song and every artist has its own structure, which is good^^
but take the binary system above and you drive right |

that would be so nice... but in reality.. most of all FullOn songs follow the astrix formula. also the other styles have formulas dark, prog, 90% of all psytrance is the same... most artists never find their own style but rather copy other artists structures sounds etc.

So your telling him to copy a structure?
Generic psytrance is pretty boring, yeah like you say many use the Astrix or "Israeli" formula for fullon..
you can still be innovative, make a really interesting 2-3 min intro that really takes you to the track,
a journey... Sometimes we should not see a track as a individual piece, maybe go further and plan a album and create tracks for this journey...
i think Jikkenteki showed with his free album how you can create very massive soundscapes that are very long but still twisting and turning..
its all about feeling! dont get stuck in todays trance loop and sound like everybody else.. make your own expression

What I'm curious about is how you managed to master creating psy sounds over five years without listening to enough of it to grasp a track you like's arrangement. |

I always thought you are a little of a "brownie" ("tomte") Conny, you come here and ask for stuff then you leave often with out saying thanks or anything... and i seldom see you share any of your knowledge...
No offence i just felt i had to get that out of my chest..
cheers!
