That's what Kontakt is for. Take your fart sample cut to size, then add amp envelope seal it up and send it to someone else so they can experience it or make acid.
Don't forget to label it something nice too.
Like Effervescent Waterfalls and place it in a nature sample folder.
cheers. |

The 303 waveforms in EXS 24, select the 18db/8ve LPF, into Logic's Guitar Amp Pro. Some amp emulations do sound like that trashy BOSS distortion pedal.
Not like the real thing, but does the trick.

Been looking for a thread/page like this for ages (I'm new here, by the way)...
What do you find the best automation for a 303 sound is? I'm working on a track currently and want it 303 heavy, but the automation I've tried so far isn't quite what I want, it doesn't hold interest and gets tedious very quickly...I'm using a tweaked preset on the Sylenth.
Any advice is appreciated! |

filter cutoff and.. resonance perhaps? maybe a liiiittle pitch mod on one of the lfo's along with the automation on the rate or gain.
pretty basic but takes away that static feeling |

Has anyone sat down and had a go at programming a real 303? Forget using your keyboard to jam notes in, its a small sequencer.
Besides the characteristic oscillator and filter sound, one of the things that make it stand out is the way you program the accents and glides of individual notes. Remember that when you're programming your next 303 line using software, and most importantly, leave the keyboard out and dial notes in, caring for the accents/glides.

That's the whole point of a 303, the glides and accent. Without those unique features the synth would be one in a million.
I've had the pleasure of playing with a xoxbox for a couple of hours and made a lot of cool stuff on it. Never seen the original though.

in a synth you could try set it as mono for the glide stuff and link few parameters on the modwheel to fake accent ,dont remember but i think the 303 accent boost volume ,envelop modulation on the cut off and resonance. all that on the modwheel sound like lot of fun with a acid sound hehe i would try to add portamento time on top if possible and maybe try few other modulations.. |

Yeah, we had one in the Stooodio until 2000 - Nigel was given it and a 606 by Kris Weston from the Orb in return for assembling an old Helios mixer. There's nothing like it in terms of its sequencer, fiddly little bastard, unpredictable at times and a pain in the ass until you've got to grips with it. Heaven help you if the contacts on the buttons on your 303 are a bit dirty.
If you want to learn how to make convincing 303 lines I really recommend spending a weekend on Phoscyon or ABL, using nothing but the internal sequencer. Get to know how accents sound on notes with and without glide, how the glide sounds going to notes in different octaves and how the accent knob affects things. Try making patterns 16, 8, 6 and 3 steps long. Try both programming something you already have in mind, and just bashing the buttons and seeing what comes out.
If you then want to program convincing 303 lines on Phoscyon or ABL as MIDI parts in your DAW, first read and understand this page: http://www.firstpr.com.au/rwi/dfish/303-slide.html - it details the timing of note on/off and the slide function. For instance, in Cubase, an un-tied 16th note on a 303 should be 70 ticks long out of 120.
When you program your 303 line in your DAW's sequencer, you may find that getting a convincing slide is difficult. Ever since Nigel modded his 303 to accept CV/Gate signals, and we started using an external sequencer for our 303 riffs, I've found that a legato glissando between notes works very well as a controllable way of making slides; you may find other ways that work better for you but this is somewhere you could start.
