I was in two minds whether to write this or not but I decided people should know about some of the shit that happens behind the trance scene.

A friend of mine who started organizing parties not long ago got a shitty email that went something like this...

"We think your parties are great and we want to help you become more professional. You know Gaijin (Foriegn) organizers are not welcome in Japan because they take money and customers away from Japanese organizers. You should know too that many organizers are Yakuza in Japan. We can help protect you from the Yakuza and make you more professional."

This is a small party of only a few hundred people but has the most awesome vibe and music.

I wonder how many parties have stopped because of this shit! Not just in japan but around the world?
Where's the spirit gone? Where's the scene going in Japan?
The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.

sorry had to edit your title, i dont think profanity would be good in a title.

Havent heard of this kind of stuff. But what is written is some what true and some what bull Sh#t.

Japan does have a ironic side to the trance scene. Its sad, but its something that we can`t just ignore.

My brother was once threatened at gun point in Goa to shut his party down because another organiser had hired 'goons' to intimidate him.. It wasnt even in the same locality, but nowdays goa has becoem a huge market u see, so anythn goes..
Luckily my brother had soem politically influential frdns around.. so it was handled appropriately, but this sabotage of organisers/parties is not unknown in India           ~*** You can tell By the way i use my walk, Im a woman's man, No time to Talk***~

I was a little emotional when I wrote this.
I'm by no means putting down the Japanese Trance scene which is one of the most vibrant in the world.
I'm just angry that this kinda thing can happen to a nice party.

Its pretty well known in Japan anyway, which parties are Yakuza and not - if you dont know, just take a look at the crowd.

My question is does anyone have any advice on how to avoid this shit apart from keeping your party small and underground. Is this the reason there are so many underground organizers in Japan?           The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.

Yes Ken, it is one of the reasons so many people are doing underground parties. It is really sad to have come to this, but like Karma Kola says, it happens in many places. Wherever profit can be made, all kinds of people flock to it, and motives for making parties become for money and not for creating a special experience for dancers. Then follows lots of politics and other bs... I guess the scale of your friends' last party crossed what was the threshold line for whoever wrote the letter.

I am sorry to hear that has happened to such nice people. Although there is not much I can really offer advicewise other than to stay small or make friends in the right places (like Karma K said), I really hope everything works out for your friends.

Spliffnik wrote it well.. see, there isnt much a normal person can do if ur threatened by gangsters and the like.. at teh end ur mind is fcuked up, and they just crawl back into whatevr hole they came outt of..
How to avoid it ??

Keep it small/underground by only lettin close frnds know abt it.Word of mouth for promotion is the best.. Now u have to decied whether ur organizing for profit or just for fun.. its ok to charge a small donation but small party= less turnover= less investment = happier people= happy YOU !!!

U cant call huge names and keep it underground of course, it destroys the whole idea behind bringin them to japan anyways..
promote local artists/dj's wannabe dj's.. it helps the scne and also keeps its Fun !!!!

good luck with ur choices man...

I'm realy sorry to hear that ken...
Its been 3 years in japan for me,and almost everytime I find myself a lot of "yakuza guys events....",Donno why but in those parties my fav' artists play.
Maybe I'm a little different than most of the crowd in japan-I chose my parties by the artists and not by the orgenizers or the people that i think would come, maybe its crazy...who knows???
Anyway nowadays trance in japan is just for $$$
just take a look at solstice music fest' 150$ for 2 night? crazy...
For me its just de ja voo that this kind of things happen
