NL is subtractive synthesis similair to your virus c
nord modular can carry different types of synthesis ,, it comes with a software editor to construct your own modules , |

You have to run the editor in win98 compatibility modus to be able to run it under XP (!!).

Not true! All you have to do is turn your Processor Scheduling to 'Programs' in System Properties->Advanced->Performance->Advanced before trying to connect the editor to the synth. Make sure to set it back to 'Background Services' afterwards
NM1 absolutely rocks. I love mine to bits. Anyone interested in discussions about it should check here:
http://www.electro-music.com/forum/forum-94.html
There is also a HUGE library of patches for it there. And I mean HUGE.

Thanx, i'll try that processor scheduling thing (mine is indeed set to background services) By the way, do you know why the editor program often gives an error message "module already exist" when i open downloaded patches ?

Crispy, transparent and full. To me it seems nothing is missing from the sounds, unlike the sounds of many softsynths. I was really surprised, since it's still a softsynth in a box.

cool thank you, I know it was kind of a broad question, but that helps, wish I could just hear one, though from all my research it seems like it's worth it, I'm just gonna keep my eye out for a good deal...:: looks around for desk space:: ...yeah I think I can make it fit |

NM1 has the same algorithms as a NL2, it basically has the same sound character.
There are a ton of presets but probly more so than any other synth, you REALLY need to like to program to get a whole lot of use from it. Standard trancey type sounds are out there, but the problem is finding them in the 20k patches available online. If you dont want to program you would probly have to spend at least a month going through presets to find what you want. |

no problem, I love programing my own patches so it shouldn't be an issue. I was contemplating saving for a NL2 before but then I found this, I was going probably 90% for sound 10% for interface so I don't think i'll have an issue with the MM. Though I want to be patient and find one for cheap. |

you might even want to think about saving for the rack. i have had 2 mm, i sold them both times because i wanted to get the rack or keyboard, just never have. the only thing that is bad about the mm is you will almost certainly wish it could play more than 1 patch at a time. |

True, that's why it's so cheap (good for the Dutchies). But it's still very useful for making basses, drumsounds, leads, weirdness and stuff like that. I find it a valuable addition to my Virus.
@ Pom: thanx for the link. |
