if you move out to CA you'd have a psy scene in LA, SF and SD... and lots of different styles of psy to choose from as well. Our gatherings can get up to a thousand every so often, but usually a couple hundred people show up. It's a pretty tight family.

Plus, if you're in Cali, during the winter months you can make the short drive/flight out to PHX for our winter desert stomping get-downs!

thanks guys. PM'ed daksinamurti earlier. He also suggested that the closest I would get to the Cape town scene is California.
Although..I'm willing to try out "other" psy scenes. But I'd like to go somewhere where the scene is lively. I go to an outdoor party at least twice a month here, and I think I would sink into depression without my frequent outdoor stomp.
It seems as if the scene in America is not quite as established elsewhere in the world? I'm sure you guys have a rad vibe no doubt but it seems quite "underground" and not quite popular yet. (which is actually a good thing... parties here are becoming very commercial)

If you are coming from the ZA scene, you are most likely a spoiled happy psytrancer. The closest would definitely be California, especially weather-wise. LA preached proper ZA sound for a while. Not sure if you are into your hometown's sound though. There is a great variety of sub-genres and fairly sophisticated crowds can be encountered through out the state. Heck, even Santa Barbara has a tiny scene.

heyyy, I think Artists wise you will catch more of what your used to hearing in NYC, We have more people playing out here that fit the Saffa sound.. party wise, I've never made it out to the west coast unfortunately, But they have the outdoor advantage ... I wish we could have that here in NYC but we're all too lazy to drive 1 hour away from home so it wouldn't work out.. plus weather/law is also the significant factor... |

"spoiled happy trancer" haha.. that's what the rest of the world tells us. But I'm very keen to check out your scene as well. I think each one is special and unique in it's own way
Yes I like the SA sound. But I can appreciate all forms of psy and as I'm sure you all know, more often than not it's the vibe/people that make the party.
So it seems that regardless of where I go I'm bound to find some psy. That's really comforting to know. I don't mind traveling an hour to a party. We seldom drive less than 2 hours to get to a party here in cape town.
You guys have really amped me up for my visit with your friendly replies and info

I grew up in Portugal, Trust me I know those journeys lol, but even those long rides are part of the party... but here it's very hard to have a steady outdoor night to afternoon party.. Due to law, cost, attendance many factors... Although we do have pine barren events which are outdoor here on the east coast but different then what we're used too at home, still fun though |

So true. The drive home is usually quite a trip *wink wink*
So it sounds as if the law is quite strict on you guys?
That's part of the reason why we throw parties out on farmlands to prevent noise complaints. The cops generally leave us alone as long as we arent making a noise. But yes, numerous parties have been bust for illegal substances and no liquor licence.

Yah I would definitely say California has one hell of a psytrance scene. A proper sophisticated variety of music. Im in LA and have been going to the events for a few years now. Definitely had some of the best times of my life here at the california gatherings. The locations are unbelievable because california is so vast and we have many different landscapes that are sparsely populated. From beaches to lush forests and mountains to the beautiful desolate desert. Also many many homegrown california psy artists putting out amazing music so we really get some killa music for our parties. The vibe and people are unbelievable. The gatherings really have a close family feel and there are plenty of them. In fact in like the past 6 weeks theres been a proper outdoor every single weekend! What can I say, theres a reason they named it "california sunshine"

So stoked to hear the psy scene is so active there. I was concerned to be honest. We hear a lot about parties in Europe.. but not much about the US. You're a sneaky bunch keeping it so quiet Your deviance inspires me.
@AumShanti (or anyone willing to reply): How much do parties generally cost there? And how long/how many days are they?

dude ive been to many parties that are like totally free or donation only as in whatever u can afford. those are usually smaller parties. otherwise for a 1 day party you can expect to pay somewhere from $10 to $30 usually, depending on the location. A 3 day party will usually be $40-60. Gemini Festival in the North Cali forest in summer is a 3 day festival that is completely free. Usually desert parties and parties that are done renegade style are lower costing.

WHAAAAT?! dude I'm there like a bear in sequenced underwear!
Even $10-30 for a party is a bargain. holy smokes.
Remind me why I'm living in SA and paying minimum R140 for a party?! (Although our 4 day festivals go for R280, which is the same as your 3 days )
Come on 2010.. why have you not yet arrived?!
Can I hear a woop woop? *does a happy dance*
