I am new in music production.
I have a APC40 and my plan is use Ableton for (future) lives and dj sets...

I try many midi setup with APC...including ILL GATES and MARSHALL templates (very sophisticated comparing with the default midi setup)..
My opinion is: Ableton doesn´t have flexibility as TRAKTOR. Do you agree?
Do you think Traktor and Controllers has prejudice in the TRANCE SCENE?

Don't worry about prejudice, functionality is the priority.

I definitely agree that Traktor is more suited to on-the-fly and "traditional" DJing than Ableton, but Ableton has a lot more possibilities provided you spend the time prepping your set.

I use CDs for DJ sets and Ableton with the APC40 for live sets, but I'm considering just going to Traktor for both of them. I find that Full-On is already too busy and saturated to really do anything on-the-fly, but I'd definitely recommend rocking Ableton for true live sets with more minimal or downtempo music.           www.facebook.com/chemogen

i think ableton live performance as I openend a thread in the workshop http://forum.isratrance.com/a-little-asskick-for-the-newcomers-play-live/

is fucking hilarous. even if the sound is fucking hectic and of course you have more elan on improvising on minimal music....

if the sound is more complex like i would say bout my music. you can go on and rearrange tracks or make them longer. take out the pads or the leads for axample in a part. then play it again. with the failing elements- i can make a 12 minutes tune out of a9 minutes original tune. and of course. THE BEST THING IS: THE MIXES:

even if you just use for mixing te thracks togehther you will love. take your prepared pads and throw them in. take the leads out of the track. change the kick. change the bass. make the most smoothe mix u can imagine and also improvise again. u can see if people have to much overdosed melodys so maybe take the leads out for the next 3 minutes just play some basslines - take some synthesizer u prearranged in ur live set. make some noises or give some nice sounds its all up to you.

then if u finished the improvisation go on with the track and send the people outerspace.

i never had such fun on playing my life sets when i just arranged in logic or somwehere and standing there. in fact i was getting bored

The main difference between traktor and ableton is that traktor is set up specifically for DJing and has an established workflow for DJing. Ableton is a DAW with an enormous range of potential configurations for live performance without a standardized workflow.

So, in order to configure an ableton live set that has the same potential as Traktor you need to be quite adept at using ableton. That being said, ableton can do things that traktor cannot dream of doing once you get a hang of abletons potential.

If I was only going to dj I might use traktor but considering I produce in ableton as well it makes sense to me to learn the shit out of one program that can do both and not split my attention between two. My 2c.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Tks a lot guys!!

Because of you I change my mind!!
I watch some videos on youtube...and I really found very interesting ways to play with APC40 and Ableton...the limits is in your hands...
I use ableton to produce tracks...so I need to spend time to make my way to play!
