What do you do before starting to work on your music?
Listen to the favorite music?
Smoke something ?
Something else maybe?

I need to clean my mind of other things.
Can't work on music when I know I need to do something.

Just sit down and mess around...80 % of the time, nothing usable ever comes out of it...
I tend to be most creative, when I'm in a very crappy mood...

nothing special.....the mood comes when u least expect! As mindfly said most of the time nothing usable comes out! My best stuff comes out when i stop producing for awhile...like a week...and i restart...always killer stuff!

i need my housemates to leave me alone, which usually means waiting for them go to bed.

then smoke a load of spliffs, cruise slsk and listen to a wide range of stimulating music...thats about as far as it goes really. oh, and cold coke, that helps too.           http://www.dartrecordings.co.uk/

Theres no such thing in my opinion.
All u have to do is turn on the machines and make magic

and i think smoking is bad for producing.
Since i quit smoking wheed and stuff i make better sound and work much faster.
And when i tried working on acid it was almost impossible.

I can relate to this one.
I guess that explains my bad music

Huja is right

of course there is the muse thing so sometimes it comes over and makes life much easier, but basically all u need is sit down and dive into the system. The longer u do it, the better u get

One more piece of advice - too much music is not good either so refresh your mind and body from time to time           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

always with my mind clear from all other thoughts & always after at least some hours of no music at all..

i always work on sounds, loops, experiment on new ideas, start a new track and change a finished one in the night when i'm tired..
you could say it's a natural way to "drug" myself..

i do the sequencing in the morning when clearer and faster mind (and hands) is needed..

i can't do the opposite and have a good result...           in search for an answer...

For me I'm one of those ADHD types... half the time when I my mind is moving faster than I can tweak knobs.. For me some of that ingested "slowness" helps me SLOW DOWN and read the knobs I'm messing with. I usually have a better time finding things when I don't have other things racing along in the periphery.

I have a tool for 2k/XP (NTFS) called hard link magic. It is free and I recommend it. Run it while you are in Logic or Cubase. Unlike shortcuts HARDLINKS are like symbolic links in UNIX.

I take an AKAI disc and listen to it. Any sound that is interesting to me I extract, I no longer have the HD space to waste on samples I will never use. Then I make a hard link to another directory (all of them start with _underscore so they are pushed to the top of the folder) and I make links in my directories called Environment, Basses, Drum Oneshots/wierd percussion, etc. Then when I need to look for a sound I go to the categorical directory and look at all my sample CDS but only those certain sounds.

Helps me during the creative process so I don't listen to CDs back and forth for days on end.

I just tend to sit down.... cant really remember much after that, untill i drop on the keyboard..........................many hours later.
