1 for OS which is about 2gb top.
2 for the progs
3 for the projects
4 for some other shit
each time you can back up your system partition, in order to restore it, if something goes wrong.

well i ment the configuration will be like this:
partition - 1 : Windows XP Pro after audio tunings + all the progs : cubase/logic/whatever,wavelab or what do u use for editing. - give it around 20 gb.
partition 2 - all the work u make (tracks , samples,loops etc....)
this partition suppose to be big if u make music
and thats it u dont need any other partitions...
good luck!
btw: i told u before - im working like this in my studio and its really heavy studio and things works great

hello medirium, like is explained here several times this is how it works in my studio, working great.
this way your pc is prepared for optimal use (afaik).
the best thing is to have 2 h.drives :
on one of the h.drive (1) you will have the basic windows + music programs and all sort of plugins and vstinstruments, and on the other h.drive (2) you will have another OS and other personal stuff that you will need like Office, ICQ, etc...
In that way when you want to work on the music you open the OS from h.drive no.1 and when you want to just work on other stuff then music open the OS from h.drive no.2
for more optimal tasks i will need to know which OS you will have and what softwares you use, and more info from your future system.
cheers

meridium, there is no problem with the registry....
I work that all the time - it's the best setup and the best backup one can have - having an image of the first partition every month or something - so if something will fail - just restore - and back to work - without reinstallations and all the crap.

all:
2 hd's are for shure the best...but i m not shure if it s really worthy...
about image / restore:
norton ghost...?
freq:...about 2 partitions:
i think it will work much better if @ least the wav and the recording are separated (---> 2 hd will be the best...)

Arie:
@ time:
- thunderbird 900, 512 sdram, rme-hammerfall 9632
- w2k, logic 5.2 ( sw only )
in future:
- next generation cpu ( amd or p5, have to see about the optimization ); @ least 1024 (ddr ?-)ram; boom-card the same
- think i ll stay with logic 5.x and w2k...these new generation cpu's should arrive beginning/middle '03
but don t care about future...i live now...
anyway...u think it works better if wav, recording and tools are all on the same partition ?
imo , in case of 2 hd's: all tools, os and wav on one ( probably with x partions ) and recording on the other.
---> best possibility ?!?
bybye, thnx 4 support

hello medirium, do u have a real name ?
tell us.
anyways, the posibility of 2 hard drives you suggested is good thing to do, but my idea is much more effective then your idea.
ok, now we go and opimize your virtual memory.
goto ---> Control Panel --> System --> Performance --> Virtual Memory.
now suppose u have 2 h.drives - set the virtual memoty on the "Let Me Specify" :
on the h.drive - set it on the h.drive that is not in use of music (the one with all the usual stuff)
set minimum : 0
set maximum : 640
then ok-->ok.
restart the pc and open with the OS h.drive for the Music.
now the system will response the best for any task, it should work allot faster.
goodluck

Best is to have 2 computer: 1 for music and second for the rest.
If that's your setup, then having 1 HD with 2 (or more) partitions won't help, because it is, after all, the same physical hard disk. Anyway, that's what I got, unfortunately.
Get 2 hard disks - 1 hard disk (doesn't have to be big) for OS, programs and stuff. Second (big) for audio - tracks wavs loops whatever.
